Bonde do Rolê is a Funk Carioca-influenced electropop group from Curitiba, Brazil and consists of MCs Pedro D’Eyrot, Laura Taylor, Ana Bernardino, and DJ/MC Rodrigo Gorky. The group started in Curitiba in the south of Brazil, mixing riffs (ranging from The Scorpions’ “Rock You Like a Hurricane” to Alice in Chains’ “Man in the Box”) with funk carioca (sometimes known as baile funk or Brazilian funk). The trio did its first major tour in 2006, with CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy). Producer Diplo first found out about the band through their MySpace account, and pushed them using his label — Mad Decent — before Bonde was signed to Domino in 2006. “We just started making music out of fun—we didn’t have any intentions to work professionally with music,” said Rodrigo Gorky.

Featuring not one, but two new female vocalists who were chosen via auditions held in conjunction with MTV Brasil, Bernardino and Taylor will join the band's new line-up for a ramped up set featuring new songs, covers, and old Bonde classics. D’eyrot and Gorky conducted a televised search for their new MCs, eventually choosing Laura and Ana from some 100 initial applicants. In addition to actually performing, contestants had to live with the Bonde boys in Gorky’s garage for one whole week, compete at karaoke, and yes, engage in a pretty unique twist on mud wrestling. “Me and Pedro were dressed as pigs and the girls had to catch us,” recounts Gorky. “In the end we were all super dirty, but it was a lot of fun!”
Bonde do Rolê released their second full-length, Tropicalbacanal, on June 26, 2012 via Diplo’s label Mad Decent. The record, which follows 2007′s With Lasers, was produced by Diplo and Filip Nikolic (of the L.A. duo Poolside) with help from British producer Mumdance and Munich’s Schlachthofbronx. It features guest spots from Tropicália icon Caetano Veloso, as well as Das Racist, Cecile, Rizzle Kicks, and the Death Set.
