BLOODS is MC, Dirk and Sweetie, three friends who grew up across the beaches and suburbs of sunny Sydney. Equal parts garage, punk and 60’s girl group pop, BLOODS kicked off their career in the early days of 2011. With a handful of demos in tow, the band united forces with the mighty Owen Penglis (Straight Arrows) to record their first single ‘All The Things You Say Are Wrong’. A riotous, two-minute-thirty punk rock explosion, the song launched BLOODS into the heart of the Australian garage scene.
It wasn’t too long till the band headed back into the studio with Penglis to record their sophomore single ‘Goodnight’. Released on 7” coloured vinyl (with ATTYSAW as the B side). ‘Goodnight’ was received with much praise and won the band track #19 on Mess & Noise’s top songs of 2012 list. Third single ‘This Town’ was released in early 2013 – an ode to bad moods, the song received love from radio and the blog world and was subsequently released on tape via Alex Wall’s (Bleeding Knees Club) boutique label, Teenage Values.
The band was invited by the fine folks at Warner Music Australia, to contribute a rendition of The Premiere’s ‘Farmer John’ for Nuggets: Antipodean Interpolations of the First Psychedelic Era, a record celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the seminal Nuggets compilation.
In March 2013, the band packed their bags and headed north, to the quite surrounds of the Hunter Valley, to begin production on their debut EP GOLDEN FANG, released August 2, 2013. Produced by Liam Judson (Cloud Control Bliss Release. The Laurels Plains) GOLDEN FANG is a collection of six songs from a band that has grown into their sound. Lead single 'BACK TO YOU' is a testament to BLOODS eagerness to push the genre and expand their musical horizons.
Since their inception BLOODS have written and gigged relentlessly, having shared stages with the likes of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Jeff The Brotherhood, The Dum Dum Girls, Obits and Redd Kross to name a few. They have played the Town Hall for Sydney Festival, have played house parties, been back up vocalists for Step Panther and guest tambourine players for Velociraptor. A band that does garage rock with a riot grrrl sensibility and girl group harmonies, it’s no wonder BLOODS is striking a chord with lovers of hyperactive, bratty music around the country.
