BirdHands is a trance-inducing 2-piece instrumental side-project featuring drummer Ian Prince (Houston, Porcupine, Story of the Sea, Soul Asylum) and singer-songwriter Allen Epley (Shiner, The Life and Times) on bass guitar and is the result of 2 years of sending files back and forth to make a record in which there were no creative conversations about direction; Allen would create his lines and send them off to Ian and whatever Ian was feeling at the time was put down and sent back. And so it was.
Upon completion of tracking, Allen enlisted his old buddy J Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines) to mix this hot monster at The Magpie Cage in Baltimore. Through a series of magical loops and pedals, Allen is able to layer these parts into savvy arrangements in the live context with these rump-shaking beats to create a hypnotic and some have said erotic effect. The repetition in the music is key to opening the mind and lathering up the crowd.
