Black Bear, the new album from acclaimed singer-songwriter Andrew Belle, will be released August 20, 2013 on 1L Music/Elm City Music. This is the follow up to Belle’s acclaimed 2010 full-length debut, The Ladder, which reached #1 on iTunes’ Singer/Songwriter chart and #21 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. It was also acknowledged by iTunes as a part of their “Rewind: Best of 2010” list.
Recorded at Blackwatch Studios in Norman, OK, Black Bear was produced and recorded by Chad Copelin and mixed by Craig Alvin in Nashville, TN. Of the new material, Belle comments, “Black Bear is an album that conceptually reflects and touches on all of the most important relationships in my life. It’s a dialogue and a wrestling with God—a continuation of the story that I began with The Ladder.” Of his previous work XPN asserts, “…filled with some terrific songs; his work is set apart from others working in the genre by his great sense of melody, arrangement and his voice,” while American Way magazine praised, “our affinity for the 24-year-old singer-songwriter is in the best taste. Belle sings about love and love lost on his first full-length album, which sounds like a cross between Mat Kearney, David Gray, and the Fray.”
Most recently, Belle released The Daylight EP (2012), which iTunes describes as, “intimately whispered inflections over a gradually building swell of emotion on par with early Coldplay recordings.” Since his debut in 2008, Belle has toured with Katie Herzig, Greg Laswell, Ben Rector, Madi Diaz and The Milk Carton Kids and is a member of the critically acclaimed national touring group Ten Out Of Tenn. Belle’s songs have also been featured in various television programs, including Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, Castle, and Vampire Diaries. In 2009, he was awarded Grand Prize in the Pop category as part of the “The John Lennon Songwriting Contest” and MTV named him “Best Breakout Artist, Chicago.”
