And We Danced is a Minneapolis-based rock band formed in the spring of 2013. While the band may be new, its members are no strangers to the game. Core songwriters Zaq Zrust and Jeremy Tappero grew up together in the early Fueled By Ramen days, playing in Cadillac Blindside and The Stereo, respectively. Over the past decade-plus, each continued on their own path with Zrust fronting Minneapolis' Crash/Burn/Repeat, and Tappero playing with The Jealous Sound, Gratitude, and more. Paths would cross over the years, but it wasn't until recently when they would team up to write for the same project.
In early 2013 they recorded and released their first single, "Way Back Home". They immediately hit the road as direct for Motion City Soundtrack on their spring tour hitting several cities throughout the midwest. Energized by the fan response and the feeling of being back out on the road, the time was now to make a record. Upon returning from tour, And We Danced entered Pound£Sound Studios in St. Paul, MN to record their debut EP.
Enlisting seasoned midwest veterans Joshua Sparks (Into It. Over It., Former Thieves) on drums and Jim Adolphson (Farewell Continental) on bass, as well as Matt Taylor from Motion City Soundtrack lending a hand on vocals, strings, and production; they exited the studio with a collection of songs that will be known as Back To The Middle. Citing influences such as The Promise Ring, The Replacements, Jimmy Eat World, and Hot Water Music, And We Danced are putting a high-energy and heartfelt spin on their brand of midwest rock.
