First Avenue, the Twin Cities’ premier entertainment venue and music promoter, is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated individual to help assist with the marketing and promotion for a group of live music venues, festivals, events, and restaurants. The Marketing Assistant is detail-oriented, focused, and can work quickly and efficiently with distractions in a fun and fast-paced environment.
This position is part marketing, part graphic design, with an emphasis on digital and social media marketing. The right candidate should have relevant experience in these fields. A passion for music is a must, as this position works directly for First Avenue & 7th St Entry, Turf Club, Palace Theatre, and The Depot Tavern, as well as other special events and festivals. This position reports directly to the Marketing Director.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Assist with the creation and delivery of marketing campaigns in print advertising, digital advertising, radio promotion, street teams, social media engagement, and more
- Assist with announcing shows and events to the general public
- Assist with research and analysis for upcoming concerts and events
- Assist with creation of venue digital assets including web ads and photo/video content
- Create weekly newsletters, blog posts, digital content, weekly contests
- Help manage physical promotional elements including posters, flyers, calendars, etc.
- Assist with the scheduling and management of venue and restaurant social media accounts
- Experience with paid digital campaigns (Facebook, Google, MailChimp, etc.) required
- Assess effectiveness of current and future promotional and marketing outlets
- Assist in researching new sites and outlets to promote concerts
- Assist with research and discover new sites and platforms to promote artists and venues
- Maintain relationships with key sites and local partners
- Assist with quantifying success and efficiency of marketing/promotions, media campaigns, social engagement, and partnerships
- Track and report concert marketing expenses; help manage to-budget on all shows
- Coordinate with various departments (booking, finance, box office, production, events)
- Miscellaneous administrative tasks including filing, record keeping, and reporting as needed
- Assist with building show and event web pages as needed
Job Requirements
- 4-year degree or comparable relevant experience
- Minimum of one year experience in a full-time position
- Experience with newsletter management systems (MailChimp, Emma, or Constant Contact)
- Experience creating and managing digital and social campaigns with Google AdWords and Display Ads, Facebook and Instagram Ads, Twitter, and other various digital/social outlets
- Traditional (print, radio) and new media (digital/social) planning experience a plus
- Experiential marketing experience a plus (street team, non-traditional marketing), etc
- Excellent communication skills required. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as well as diligent attention to detail. Candidate will be collaborating with, presenting campaigns to, and contextualizing results for a broad audience weekly
- Must be proficient using Excel, Powerpoint or Keynote, and be comfortable with collaboration and asset management tools including Google Drive, Dropbox, and Wunderlist
- Entry level graphic design experience with Adobe Creative Suite desired
- Must thrive in a team environment, but be able to take initiative and work independently
- Candidate must have strong computer knowledge of various music applications and excellent knowledge of relevant blogs/apps/publications online
- Must be highly organized, detailed-oriented, and excited to work in an all-hands-on-deck team environment

HOURS
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. On occasion may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays in addition to normal business hours.
