Ly Theatre Company presents Lee Lue The Musical, a compelling tale of a young Hmong teacher that is pulled from a peaceful life into a war the world refused to name. The musical is a work of historical fiction, inspired by the Secret War in Laos, and by one of the first pilots from Laos’ Hmong community drawn into it—a little-known chapter of the Vietnam era in which the United States partnered with Hmong forces in Laos, recruiting an ethnic minority into a conflict that was never truly theirs.
In the mountains of 1960s Laos, a young village teacher picks up his chalk and puts it down forever. He will become a pilot instead—not because he was born to it, but because his people needed someone to rise.
