The Depot’s Sixth Annual Diamond Dog™ Eating Contest

First Avenue and City Pages are proud to present the sixth annual Diamond Dog™ Eating Contest on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at The Depot Tavern. The fast and furious competition of iron stomachs pits six hungry participants against each other to determine who can eat the most Diamond Dogs™ in ten minutes.

The Diamond Dog™ – a 1/4 lb. all-beef hot dog wrapped in pepper bacon, deep-fried, and served on a pretzel bun.

First Place Prize: First Avenue Platinum Membership, 10 pairs tickets to First Avenue shows, $50.00 Depot Tavern Gift Card

“The Anarchist” Arik Cannon – International Professional WrestlerArik Cannon has been proudly representing his Minnesota roots while traveling the globe; punching faces and slamming his opponents, since making his professional wrestling debut in 2001. Over the years, “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon has become synonymous with Professional Wrestling here in Minnesota. Arik and F1RST Wrestling turned the rich pro wrestling history here in Minnesota upside down, when they introduced WRESTLEPALOOZA to Minneapolis in 2013! The wild and raucous variety show has gained quite the cult following, and is beginning to spread like wildfire.  When he’s not in the ring, you can find Arik in the crowd at your local punk rock shows… With a PBR in hand, of course! Barb Abney – On-air DJ at GO96Barb is a radio host with over twenty years in the biz. Originally from the Cincinnati, Ohio area, she moved to Minneapolis in 2006 and never left. Abney spends her time on the air from 8am – noon at GO96. In her spare time she loves watching and dancing to live music, playing board games with her family, live DJ-ing, and hanging out at a comic book store or sci-fi convention. She also has plans to sample every food truck in the Twin Cities.

Sean McPherson – Trivia Mafia Master and Local MusicianSean McPherson is an accomplished accomplice. He plays bass for Heiruspecs, Dessa and his solo project, Twinkie Jiggles Broken Orchestra. He is the co-founder of Trivia Mafia, the best trivia company in the world. He is the interim host of the Morning Show on 89.3 The Current. If you are attempting to engage him in a conversation bring up salad bars, obscure hip-hop or facts related to the US Interstate System. Coffee Order: Light Roast, 2 creams, 9 splendas. Arwyn Birch and Teresa Fox – Owners of the delicious Glam Doll DonutsThe owners of Glam Doll Donuts, Teresa Fox and Arwyn Birch, have been making donuts sexy since 2013. Forever driven by their passion for delicious food, music, art and vintage fashion, they have brought the classic pastry to a new realm of relevance.  Deal maker Teresa and steady hands Arwyn make the perfectly balanced combo to spin out all of the wacky creations and visual surprises that have come to be expected of Glam Doll Donuts.  

Jay Boller – Music Editor at City PagesJay Boller is the brand-new music editor at City Pages. Previously, he was asst. editor at Vita.mn. His passions include watching “The Simpsons” and judging hot-dog contests.

New this year, The Diamond Dog™ Eating Contest debuts the Kids Competition, where participants ages 3 – 12 race to build their own Diamond Dog™! Each entrant will attempt to assemble the perfect Diamond Dog™ as fast as possible, with a kids prize pack going to the victor. Kids can register for this new event at The Depot Tavern on July 4.
