For the past 13 years, Tom Scharpling has manned the ship of a multi-hour broadcast of comedy, music and call-ins out of the New Jersey’s freeform radio gem, WFMU. Reaching the world via the internet, Tom has worked with Jon Wurster (Superchunk, Mountain Goats, Bob Mould) to create a dysfunctionally delicious and fictitious town called New Bridge. Filled with a cast of hundreds of repeating characters, he’s created a comedy body of work that will surely last well in to the future. Numerous luminaries in the world of comedy and music like Ted Leo, Kurt Vile, Aimee Mann, Marc Marton, Patton Oswald, Todd Barry and Zach Galifianakis have joined hundreds of devoted callers from around the globe in helping Scharpling log thousands of hours.
On December 17, Scharpling will be ending an era by doing one last 3 hour show. Tom Loftus of Modern Radio Record Label has organized an evening to bring together listeners and fans of the show affectionally known as Friends of Tom to join together to celebrate and enjoy the final show. We’re hoping to call in and give a cheer of thanks for all Scharpling has done over the last 13 years.
