Canadian born singer-songwriter, poet, novelist, ladies man, Leonard Cohen turns 82. Celebrate his birthday with Mean Larry. Cake will be served.
Singer-songwriter Mean Larry, banned from Duluth in 1989 began performing the songs of Leonard Cohen in 1992, teaming with Marvel Olsen and debuting at the Bad Habit Café in downtown Saint Paul. The duo also put on tributes at the Uptown Bar & Grill and Riverside Café. Mean Larry formed the Chelsea Hotel: a tribute to Leonard Cohen and performed at famed downtown Minneapolis nightclub, First Avenue, garnering a Minnesota Music Award nomination for “Best Cover Band”. Along with performing in the freight elevator at the historic Thorp Building in northeast Minneapolis, Mean Larry has taken his Leonard Cohen tribute on the road as well; Theo’s Java Club in Rock Island, and Tractor Tavern in Seattle to name just a few stops. This year, in the Clown Lounge, will feature the songs inspired by Marianne. Leonard’s longtime muse passed away recently.
