Girl Germs, founded by music writers Sally Hedberg and Dana Raidt, is a website and a series of tribute nights that honor the best and brightest female artists. We aim to fill in the gaps of popular music history, recognizing and celebrating all the important contributions women have made to the musical landscape.
Our tribute-night kickoff features seven of the Twin Cities’ best bands –male and female – paying homage to a classic female artist of their choosing. From fuzz-rock dudes (and 2014 Vita.mn Best New Bands hall-of-famers) Fury Things covering ‘90s feminist icon Courtney Love, to retro-rockers L’Assassins performing the songs of garage heroes Thee Headcoatees, every tribute selection is unique and (more importantly) heartfelt.
None other than Lori Barbero (of Minneapolis’ revered all-girl band Babes in Toyland) will host; DJ Jen Hughes rounds out this all-star fete of women in rock.
