More Minneapolis musicians join line up for Third Annual Benefit Concert at First Avenue
[MINNEAPOLIS, June 20, 2014] From rap to R&B, Gospel to rock – an eclectic group of Minneapolis musicians spanning three decades will come together to play the iconic soundtrack to Purple Rain in its birthplace – First Avenue, on Saturday, June 28, 2014.
Minneapolis rapper Slug (aka Sean Daley), half of the hip hop group Atmosphere, now joins the growing cast of performers that includes Purple Rain actress Apollonia Kotero–in her return to First Avenue for the first time since the film was released 30 years ago this month–several musicians with ties to Prince, including keyboardist Dr. Fink, sax player Eric Leeds, and singer Paul Peterson; as well as Sounds of Blackness-Minneapolis’s GRAMMY-winning ensemble; and former American Idol contestant Paris Bennett.
This uniquely Minnesota event is the third installment of the evolving annual “Benefit 2 Celebrate Life! Bobby Z & Friends” charity concert to raise funds and heart-health awareness on the third anniversary of Bobby Z’snear-fatal heart attack. Bobby Z (aka Robert Rivkin), the former drummer for Prince & The Revolution and Purple Rain-fame, and his organization, My Purple Heart, have partnered with the American Heart Association to host the annual event to raise funds and awareness since Bobby survived a heart attack.
General Admission tickets are now on sale for $50.00; VIP Admission is $100.00 and includes early admission, exclusive viewing with VIP-hostess Apollonia, photo opps, and VIP laminate. Doors open at 6:00pm for VIP and 7:00pm for General Admission. Concert begins at 8:00pm. Tickets are now on sale through First Avenue.
