Best New Band: Frankie Teardrop

Each weekday leading up to our Best New Bands of 2013 showcase this Thursday in the Mainroom, we will be sharing an interview with each of the seven artists.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard Frankie Teardrop before?

SHIT ROCK

What are Frankie Teardrop’s plans for 2014?

Freak people out, make people cry, get weird. Take a good hard look in the fuckin’ mirror every day. Do some real shit. Lots of writing and recording. We have some things cooking, maybe a full-length, maybe some touring. Getting the fuck out of this town. We takin’ over.

How excited/nervous are you to playing the Mainroom for first time?

Saw some of my first shows here at First Ave. I love 7th Street but it’ll be real cool to play the Mainroom. Hope it’s super fuckin’ loud. Cool venue, great staff, surprised and honored that they picked us for this.

If you could share First Avenue’s Mainroom stage with any two performers (current or present), which acts would they be?

Pavement, Television. Same bill would be cool.

What do you think makes Minneapolis a hotbed of musical talent?

I don’t know. I moved here a few years ago and I’ve found some passionate people who are driven to make awesome shit and willing to help each other out. There’s a community spirit I guess, and a lot of people that are into music. That’s cool. There are some really solid venues in this town and some great recording spaces, too. I guess I don’t really know why there’s a ton of music stuff here, I like it here though.

What other local bands do you think people should know about?

SCRNS, Strange Names, Howler, France Camp, Fury Things, Night Moves, Nallo, Teenage Moods, Human Kindness, more I can’t think of right now.
