In the summer of 2020, when the world stood still, 3 Minneapolis musicians decided to write some songs as a way to kill time since everyone had so much time on their hands. Via email, Aaron LeMay (Another Heaven, the Mark Mallman band), Nick "Danger" Welker (The Anchor Windlass), and Johnny Laberda (The Brutes, Heart Lake Mystery, Nova Human), started sending song ideas back and forth. Before they knew it, they had a set worth of tunes. So all the music sat until the spring of 2021 when the 3 were vaccinated and able to get in the same room, and Battery Eyes was formed!
With a stripped down, no frills style, the band’s music pulls from the likes of the Wipers and Drive like Jehu crossed with post-punk favorites Gang of Four and Killing Joke. The band seamlessly mixes the ferocity and urgency of the best punk rock of the past with a new and unpredictable slant, all wrapped around lyrics focusing on the plight and helplessness the human race finds itself in.
