Dorene Day Waubanewquay

Waubanewquay, or Dorene Day, is an Ojibwe-Anishinabe Kwe of the Waubizayshi O’dodem - Marten Clan, from Asabikone zaaga I’ gunning - Bois Forte Reservation in northern Minnesota. A strong advocate for youth, women, families, health and wellness, and culture-based healing and education.

Dorene has worked for more than 30 years within the social service arena. As a traditional healer, teacher, singer, and activist, she has remained steadfast in working for the Anishinabe community through all of her efforts, guided by her traditional practices. Dorene took part in a 47-day walk carrying water from the Gulf of Mexico to Lake Superior as part of the 2011 Mother Earth Water Walk that brought Native American grandmothers together from all four directions to increase awareness of freshwater issues.
