W.A.N.A.B. (We Are Not A Band)

Jam Class’ Final Project is a Gig at the 7th Street Entry

Loring Nicollet Alternative School has created a class that is essentially a school of rock. Students ranging from 9th to 12th grade at L.N.A.S. enrolled in “Jam Class” not knowing what to expect. Turns out, there is very little jamming and a lot of preparing for an actual gig. On November 11th these students will perform at the 7th Street Entry. The set list includes a combination of student and instructor selections as well as original works. This all ages matinee gig will be a first for most of the students and will cover a wide breath of material from Herbie Hancock to The Pixies. The students have named their band “W.a.n.a. B.” (We Are Not a Band). Also performing,  Another Youth Band and DJ Jam Ez.

Doors open 3:30. Music at 4:00. Suggested donation $5.00

This “Jam Class” is not the first of its kind but is definitely unique to L.N.A.S.’s diverse and alternative learning atmosphere. “Kids are more likely to keep coming around because of this class” says Victoria Peña, L.N.A.S. Staff. These aren’t band camp students but they have as much or more to bring to the stage.

L.N.A.S. is known for its small size but high expectations. One of  its objectives, beyond normal curriculum, is to empower high school students to become more aware of who they are and what they need to reach their goals. Support your local alternative school.
