Brother Jules

If I learned anything with my 25+ years dealing with musical genius (Prince), Rhythm unifies all souls and hearts! What the "PURPLE FAM" can expect from me that night is heart, head pounding rhythm that will not only be FUNKY, but will help in preserving a LEGACY that took 57 years to manifest! Welcome 2 the Dawn!

Brother Jules is an International DJ/Musician who worked with Prince for 25+ years, been on seven World tours, and countless hours at Paisley Park. He is also the radio DJ and presenter for Minneapolis based station KMOJ.

As a teen, Brother Jules’ ears were glued to the radio, 89.9 FM KMOJ, a local black community radio station that featured a ground-breaking Midwest Hip-Hop show, called the Hip-Hop Shop with Alan Freed and Travi-tron. Like most teenagers in Minneapolis, Jules listened faithfully.

By the time he was a sophomore in high school, Jules began djing at a club called Bernadette’s, in Uptown Minneapolis and he joined a hip-hop group called The School Of Thought alongside the late, Mahdi Bryant & Jamal Herute. As a pioneer hip-hop group in Minneapolis, they set the city on fire at many local parties and events and became very popular. Eventually, Jules left The School of Thought and joined another the Minneapolis crew, Abstract Pack alongside DJ G-Rock (Eric Goodlowe), Will Miller and Sedrick Harris, and helped further pioneer hip-hop in the Twin Cities.

By the age of fifteen, Jules had landed his first DJ gig at the historic First Avenue nightclub, the club featured in the movie Purple Rain and made famous by Prince. First Avenue was also located a few blocks away from another club, called Glam Slam. Managers from Glam Slam heard Brother Jules djing at First Avenue and he was eventually asked to begin djing Saturday nights at Glam Slam, which was owned and operated by Prince.

As Jules’ relationship with Prince began to grow and develop, he was asked by Prince to come out to Paisley Park and do an after set. That one set lead to a gig djing at Paisley Park’s after hours every Wednesday and Saturday and twenty-five+ years relationship and seven world tours alongside Prince as his official tour DJ. Jules would eventually become Prince’s left hand man with production, touring and organizing all of his after parties around the world.

Brother Jules, has also worked with several recording companies and artists throughout the years; including, Bad Boy Records, Blue Flame Marketing, Interscope Records, Deathrow Records, Def Jam, Miramax Films, 20th Century Fox, Orion Pictures, and Tri-Star Pictures. He has also had the opportunity to work for notable celebrities such as P. Diddy, Oprah Winfrey, Janet Jackson, Kobe Bryant, Clive Davis, Next, Kevin Garnett. He has established himself as a highly professional DJ with an extensive musical background.
