Trained as a classical violinist, David Gerald Sutton never expected jazz to captivate him and lead him down a path to contemporary music. He first broke the mold during his high school years, experimenting with blues, then moving into more advanced swing and jazz charts. As time went on, David decided he needed a way to stand out in the band when soloing, but still be able to be part of the band, so he became an electric violinist. David now plays multiple genres, specializing in alternative and jazz music. Using his acoustic and 5 string electric violins, he is striving to become a recording artist with a new, unique sound. David is actively performing in St. Paul, Minnesota, writing and recording music with three different bands: Do A Barrel Roll!, The Human Empire, and the Electric String Quartet.

Electric String Quartet is David’s solo project, performing music with only his violin and various effects. ESQ has played with the likes of Jeremy Larson, Darren King of MuteMath and Stacy Dupree of Eisley, among many others. The highlight of this one man band is when he writes a song as he is playing it onstage, debuting something new and exciting at every show. From working in the studio to performing live, writing music and playing for fun, David has taken the world of strings and pushed the boundary, changing people's view on the violin.
