DJ Dudley D

“DJ Dudley, he’s the best! DJ Dudley, he’s the best! DJ Dudley, he’s the best!”

-Prince, July 11, 2013, during DJ Dudley's set at Paisley Park Studios

DJ Dudley D (Dustin Meyer), grew up in the heart of Uptown in Minneapolis and was a product of Minneapolis Public Schools.  There he would start learning production skills and DJ'ing high school dances at Minneapolis Southwest.

At the end of his senior year, is when he got his first Technique 1200s and spent days learning the craft of being a DJ.

In the dingy basements of fraternities at the University of Minnesota the craft was honed, bringing club music to fraternity life, keeping parties going 'til the wee hours of the morning.

In 1997, Dudley started working alongside longtime Minnesota DJ Brother Jules at Paisley Park Studios during the frequent dance parties and performances. Quickly caught the eye of Prince on his first night there, mixing Kiss' into 'Erotic City'. Prince asked “Is this Jules' mix?", as Jules was working on a 60-minute mix at the time for Prince. Dustin told him "no", and pointed to records spinning, at which time Prince asked him "you mixing this?", nodding back yes to the question, Prince nodded and said "cool”, disappearing into the night.

Perched above the "NPGMC" dance floor in Paisley Park, Dudley D quickly became the resident DJ at Paisley Park through the end of the '90s into the early 2000s. From small parties to major concert events, he kept the party moving.

Dudley D started touring with Prince as part of his newly formed band "The Fonky Bald Heads" in 2001 and opened up arenas prior to Prince hitting the stage along with doing sets at Prince’s infamous after parties. He also joined Prince and the NPG on stage during the One Night Alone tour in Europe, Japan, and the US in 2002. Dubbed "Scratch Man" by Prince during that tour, Dudley D joined the band with scratches on top of songs like Pop Life, Everlasting Now, and Days of Wild.

In addition to these accomplishments, Dudley D put down scratches on "Funk N' Roll" and made a mix for Prince during his benefit concert in Baltimore.

As music director for the Timberwolves organization, Dustin produces the first NBA game to feature music and in-game sound for a single artist, Prince.

During the pandemic, he also produces a 24-hour Prince Livestream. Spinning straight through, Dudley never repeated a song during the course of the event.

“No Music, No Party" is Dudley's creed and if he is bringing the music, you know the party is going to pop.

DJ Dudley D (Dustin Meyer) currently resides in Minnesota and is co-host of the Purple Highs podcast. He continues to DJ throughout Minneapolis and is part of the in-game sound production teams for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Lynx, Minnesota Twins, Minnesota United, and the University of Minnesota Gopher Basketballs Teams working with GenerationNOW.
