Monday: Ken South Rock
We’ve moved this show from the Turf Club, but Ken South Rock doesn’t seem to mind because they’re always on the move. Ken Kenichi and Adam Aron Amram are an East meets West duo, a Godzilla in New York mash-up of psychedelic power rock. This band started touring Tokyo just three days after a devastating earthquake rocked Japan. That essence lives on in their performances, they are just as jarring and destructive as they are sensitive and intimate. Arrive early to catch Duluth rockers Tiger Blue and Rapedoor. A very lively Ken Kenichi, wearing his trademark red Komono, is featured in this video of an intimate performance space, much like The Entry.

Tuesday: Tribal Seeds
Refreshingly familiar and joyous performers, Tribal Seeds will be heating up The Entry on Tuesday. They have enjoyed much praise from many “Best Of” lists and Billboard topping singles in their Reggae genre. Most unlike their contemporaries, they bear a specific vocal style that could be considered more altruistic. Tribal Roots are a special act because of their respect for the genre, but also their willingness to adapt it for a more California sound. California Roots. Rock. Reggae. Wednesday: Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds
Fronted by Arleigh Kinchelo, whose smoldering intensity and body language are as sly and stirring as her bluesy voice, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds are a soulful and funky live show. Just let go of the rest of the week to join a special multi-instrumental performance with a playful outlook and contagious combination of passion and sentiment. This show is not one to be missed as it was just announced last week that a new band member will be joining them for the rest of their tour (Ryan Snow left to pursue a law degree). Visually the band has been featuring boxing gloves and silk hoods to promote their latest album Fight; check out Arleigh Kinchelo’s late round revenge in this video.

Thursday: Julianna Barwick
An impressive vocalist with an enduring relationship to the impressionistic and fleeting emotional associations to the natural world, Mrs. Barwick has received much praise from several indie-rock circles and her live performances have brought diverse crowds homologizing fans between the folk and ambient. Her most recent album, Nepenthe, was inspired by the landscape of Iceland, and bears the same scars of volcanic fire and deep winter’s frost; which might be why her performances have been so moving and yet very alien. Up-and-coming Brooklyn-based Vasillius opens. He will be bringing his stripped down fusion of soulful vocals coupled with drone and psychedelic synth. A beautiful performance from Barwick is to the right.

Friday: Dan Croll
British singer-songwriter Dan Croll garnishes his pleasant confessional lyricism with an innocent and youthful appreciation for life. Having only recently graduated from a performing arts college, Croll found himself with a national songwriting award and a date over a cup of tea with Paul McCartney. His life thus far has been spirited and whirring, but Sweet Disarray displays a mature attachment to simpler satisfactions. Croll’s affectionately geeky smile is one that drives the warmth and simplicity of his performances inwards to where it starts in all of us. Heartfelt and vibrant, Dan Croll is going to present a brilliant show. See Croll’s hometown in the song “Home” to the right.

Saturday: The Underachievers
The Brainfeeder-affiliated Brooklyn rap duo the Underachievers are part of New York City’s loose knit Beast Coast collective, which counts Joey Bada$$ and his Pro Era crew along with Flatbush Zombies among its membership, and the A$AP Mob as friends. But the Underachievers are a singular presence within the new New York scene. A scenic remix of live perfomances, candid free-styles, and plenty of partying is featured in their promotional video.

Sunday: DTCV
It has been an exciting few months for DTCV (pronounced “Detective”). Since December of last year they have released a new record, a re-release of three earlier EPs, and a Burger Records cassette tape; all the while playing fiery shows across the US. Their French-American style falls somewhere between A Thousand Leaves-era Sonic Youth and Belle & Sebastian; which makes for easy grooves, harsh licks, and clashing attitudes.
