Tuesday: Bronze Radio Return
There is something about Bronze Radio Return that is particularly attractive, but it’s not quite clear what it is. If you’re listening, it might be the strong hook, twangy guitars, or their pounding percussions that carry each song into a clap along rhythm. If your watching, it might be their precise cultural observances of American roots music and remote rural living, or their frequencies on commercial campains such as the PGA Tour. Whatever it might be, Bronze Radio Return will have The Turf feeling like greener pastures. Hey Monea!, with their classic 70s radio ready, piano-based sound, will open the show.

Wednesday: Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra
By remaining political and contradictory in nature, the position Thee Silver Mt Zion Orchestra finds itself most often expressing is a struggle within its music, but also one that is expressively reverent for natural beauty. Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra has traced a barbed-wire arc of genre-defying protest music since its inception in 1999. Formed by Efrim Menuck, with Thierry Amar and Sophie Trudeau, the initial iteration of the band was a predominantly instrumental trio that forged a more intimate and ragged chamber-punk than Godspeed You! Black Emperor, the other group in which all three founding SMZ members also played (and continue to play).

Thursday: Jessica Lea Mayfield
At age 15, she recorded her first album White Lies in her brother’s bedroom, printing only 100 copies. One of those copies fell into the hands of Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. After an introduction, Mayfield and Auerbach hit the studio, recording her debut album, With Blasphemy, So Heartfelt and later her sophomore album, Tell Me. Now on her third album she seems a bit more out of her element, in a good way, in the rebellious kind of way. Her most recent work seems very much aware, if not admiring the rawer sounds of earlier grunge – especially Nirvana as her vocals seem distant and very worn. This deadpan delivery is especially irresistible to see live as Mayfield has already proved herself as a humorous and clever lyricist. Mayfield will be complemented well by opener Dylan LeBlanc, whose rich and soulful country aesthetic will be quite welcoming and personable.

Friday: Charlie Parr (SOLD OUT)
If you’re going to see Charlie Parr, be sure to get there nice and early because this show sold out. Many people play roots music, but few modern musicians live those roots like Minnesota’s Charlie Parr. Recording since the earliest days of the 21st century, Parr’s heartfelt and plaintive original folk blues and traditional spirituals don’t strive for authenticity: They are authentic. Matt Andersen and Corpse Reviver will be opening show.

Saturday: The Hudson Branch | Future Monarchs
The Hudson Branch is an inventive five-piece Chicago rock and experimental group whose creative voice is being heard on media outlets like NPR, as well as opening for world-renowned bands such as New Order. The Hudson Branch consists of two sets of brothers. Matthew and Jacob Boll both typically play guitar and bass, yet each can pick up other instruments when the spirit moves them. Lead singer Cobey Bienert plays guitar, while brother Corey Bienert plays drums, as well as ‘secret weapon’ Enoch Kim.
Future Monarchs is a band eleven years in the making. Built around the songwriting talents of childhood friends and bandmates Bobby Lord and Jake Anderson, they have pulled together the disparate influences of 60’s British Invasion pop, Laurel Canyon folk and the indie rock that they grew up with into a sound that is as infectiously familiar as it is paradoxically original.

Sunday: Flamin’ Groovies
We’re very excited about this show. The Flamin’ Groovies can be considered a fixture in rock history, but they still carry an edginess that leaves them relatively untainted, unlike the low hanging fruit of their contemporarys’ similar successes. The FLAMIN’ GROOVIES have returned in full force. The Cyril Jordan, Chris Wilson, George Alexander line-up that rocked the UK, Europe and the US from 1971 – 1980 are BACK IN ACTION. With the addition of Victor Penalosa on drums, they continue to present their own unique and infectious style of rock n roll with such cult classics as “Slow Death,” “Shake Some Action,” and “You Tore Me Down.”

Monday: Matt Pond PA Emblems 10 Year Anniversary
Ten years ago, Matt Pond PA released their fifth album, Emblems, which is perhaps their finest moment. Besides the group’s usual mix of fuzzy keyboards, stormy strings and strummy acoustic guitars, the record is anchored by Pond’s plaintive, wistful vocals and introspective lyrics. (Think a more subdued Superchunk or autumnal New Pornographers.) This tour celebrates the record’s tenth anniversary and this show will feature tour-mates The Lighthouse and The Whaler and locals The Farewell Circuit as special guests.
