Tuesday: The Growlers
These California rockers released their fifth studio album this year, and don’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. They just wrapped up the European leg of their tour, supporting their newest effort, Chinese Fountain. The title track posted here was thrown together by Brooks Nielsen and guitarist Matt Taylor who went with a funk-disco tone to their new album. They’ve just started the U.S. leg of their tour so don’t miss these budding rockers here in Minneapolis.

Wednesday: Bear in Heaven
In support of their latest record Time Is Only One Day Old, the veteran psych-rock group have stripped their sound down and have continued to hone their craft of electro-pop while maintaining their dark and cold tone that has always existed in their tracks. Their frontman Jon Philpot dialed-in to keep their ambient soundscapes intact while taking the excess away and going for a more minimal approach. Their newest and 4th record-to-date is one of their more accessible. The trio are an impressive live set, and with so few U.S. dates remaining, don’t miss them in the Entry.

Thursday: Mandolin Orange
Any folk-rock fan wouldn’t want to miss the upcoming duo Mandolin Orange in the Entry. These two musicians recorded their third album, This Side Of Jordan, in upstate NY to capture an autumn vibe and succeeded. It’s the best and most unexpected folk release of the year, with the duo thinking “it might be fun to write a stereotypical country song and didn’t expect for it to be so catchy”. The band is being lauded by bluegrass experts around the country—and for good reason. Andrew Marlin is one of the most talented mandolin players touring.

Friday: Broncho
For anyone thinking fuzz rock is dead, here is Broncho. An Oklahoma-based effort whose musical escapades were reinvigorated as of late from help of song placement in the show Girls. Their second release’s singles have been making large rounds on the interest, and have gotten them the widespread attention they deserve. The newest record will be released on September 16, so make sure to grab a ticket to their Entry show to hear a few of their fantastic new singles off of Just Enough Hip to be Woman.

Saturday: Matt’s Going Away Forever Party
Serenghetto, White Boyfriend, and Echomaker – three budding rock bands on the verge of breaking out. They’ve been frequenting small clubs and festivals as of late but with all three headlining 7th St, there will be an impressive variety of genres on the same stage this Saturday. Serenghetto, supporting their summer EP and the local Mpls act specializing in garage-noise-rock are sharing the bill with (also) local alt-funk trio White Boyfriend and St. Paul‘s own three-piece Echomaker.
Sunday: Papercuts
Having released their fifth LP this past summer, producer/songwriter Jason Quever is bringing his Papercuts project on the road, having toured previously with the likes of Beach House and Grizzly Bear, and also producing Cass McComb’s debut EP. Some describe it was retro pop, some describe it as freak folk, but either way you won’t want to miss the long-anticipated Papercuts 7th St Entry debut this Sunday night.
