Named one of Essence Magazine’s “Top 15 Gospel Artists to watch for in 2014,” Darnell Davis is a gospel performer, songwriter and producer signed to RCA Inspiration. Davis, a Grammy Award nominee and Stellar Award winner from Minneapolis, founded The Remnant in 2004. The gospel ensemble’s debut CD, Psalms of the Remnant included the hit tune, Stop Frontin’ with Stokley of Mint Condition as the guest lead. They followed up that impressive CD with No Compromise that led the group to be featured on BET.com’s Listen Up.
Their third musical offering, Refocused, was a brilliant mix of contemporary praise, worship and traditional songs along with a jazz-infused instrumental. The name “Remnant” comes from the Scripture, Jeremiah 23:3. “I had a vision for this group,” he says. “I woke up with the word, ‘remnant.’ I started researching what the word meant. Scripture essentially says, I will gather the remnant from where the pastures have scattered them.” It was in January 2013 during a showcase concert in Minneapolis when Stanley Brown, the former Senior A&R for RCA Inspiration, announced Darnell Davis & The Remnant as their newest signed gospel artist.
The following year at the end of first quarter Darnell Davis & The Remnant released their fourth project, and first project at their new label home. That project garnered a 2014 Dove Award nomination for Traditional Gospel Album along with a 2015 Stellar Award nomination for Contemporary Choir of The Year. To be recognized by their peers and colleagues in their industry Darnell Davis and The Remnant continue in their drive to revive and inspire people of varied cultures and backgrounds through song.
