Garren Sean

A musician since childhood, the Bay Area-based Garren Sean played the violin until he was 10 years old, when creative restlessness took hold. After quitting formal lessons, he taught himself how to play guitar and experimented with recording equipment provided by his father, who worked in music production; while his mother introduced him to classic soul and R&B, his father turned him on to classic rock and 80s funk. From there, he studied the techniques of Eddie Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix, who Garren counts as formative influences.

That sense of diversity and exploration shines through Garren's music, from his work with others (producing the Future-assisted standout "Smoke Break" from the Chicago rapper's Grammy Award-winning album, Coloring Book) to the sounds heard throughout the artist's debut offering, GARREN, LP. From the glistening, open-skies synths of opening track "Found" to the limber funk of "Lift Off" to the tricky sense of melody (check out the warped tones and elastic vocals of "There She Go"), GARREN, LP is sure to gain the notice of anyone looking for fresh sounds that feel utterly classic.
