Sappho’s Social Club

Sappho's Social Club (SSC) came about organically in 2025, in response to expressed need for sapphic spaces. Since, the club has run under the leadership of 11 democratically elected sapphic board members. Through cultural organizing, mutual aid fundraising, and community-centered programming, we aim to strengthen civic participation, increase community visibility, and help vulnerable communities build collective power during a time of escalating political hostility toward immigrants, queer people, and trans communities.

Our work is rooted in the belief that joy, safety, culture, and collective care are essential parts of community organizing and long-term movement building. We are committed to creating spaces grounded in mutual respect, accessibility, diversity, and intentional listening to the communities we serve. Through this work, we aim not only to provide immediate healing and economic support, but also to strengthen lasting networks of solidarity and grassroots power across the Twin Cities.

We believe that community organizing begins with fostering spaces where people can gather, share joy, build relationships, spread knowledge, and collectively envision a more just future. We do this by hosting events that our community wants, in spaces that are owned, led, and operated by the communities we represent, who support our mission and understand the importance of community organizing, and connecting our members to direct action at those events. Our mission is not only to create those spaces but to make our club a place where people come to ignite their fire for justice, feel a sense of home and belonging, and stay, not just as a part of a community but a movement.
