Shelby, North Carolina’s hip hop meets deathcore influenced band Filth formed in 2015 as a side project for guitarist David Gantt and vocalist Dustin Mitchell. Filth quickly took on a life of its own, with the purpose of spreading soul-smothering brutality to the hearts and heads of heavy music enthusiasts around the country. They popped off with the release of their debut EP, Tales from the Gutter, and morphed into a ball of mud rolling down a steep hill of grime — picking up mass and speed with each passing moment and with every subsequent breakdown. After a stretch of head-turning live performances and a critically acclaimed display of hyper-dissonant heaviness laced with urban grooves, the band released its best material yet in April 2024 with Southern Hostility.
