My name is Mark Odumuyiwa, I’m a Nigerian-American inter-disciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY, and Minneapolis, MN. My work is a dynamic exploration of narratives influenced by my Nigerian and American heritage that challenge conventional ideas and introduce fresh perspectives on the Black gaze, masculinity, the African diaspora, family, religion, and race.
In addition to my conceptual and storytelling pieces, I also delve into fashion photography. Through this medium, I strive to redefine societal standards of beauty by featuring non-traditional faces, pushing boundaries, and expanding the horizons of visual representation.
In 2019, I embarked on a new creative journey by establishing my clothing brand, Universal Rejects. This venture serves as another canvas for me to convey the stories and experiences of the African diaspora that hold a special place in my heart, bringing these narratives to life through clothing and fashion.
I also DJ under the moniker Rejected Saint. In DJing, I see the music and audio I mix as collage elements, allowing me to create or encapsulate unique experiences.
