The Permatemps

The Permatemps on Myspace

In a music scene over populated with auto-tuned bands that are more concerned with looking like a rock band than sounding like one, it’s hard to find good, genuine, original music. Extreme frustration with this scene, plus the demise of Better Off Tomorrow, lead to the birth of The Permatemps. Mike Daly (vocals/guitar) and Daniel De La Torre (guitar) rose from the ashes of their former band, Better Off Tomorrow, and teamed up with Drew Johnson (bass) and Frankie Blydenburgh (drums) to form The Permatemps in the spring of 2008. Drawing upon a diverse list of influences, The Permatemps combine an eclectic mix of genres to create a unique sound of past meets present. From the beginning, the band set out to make music centered around Daly’s insightful and clever lyrics. The band’s raw, unpolished sound differentiates themselves from the over-produced, shallow songs that are flooding the “pop-punk” scene today. In contrast, they prefer to rely on their talents, rather than computers, to produce inventive, genuine, alternative-punk rock songs. Anyone who’s ever busted their ass to get through college only to land a low paying, unfulfilling job, will hear the frustrations being vented throughout Daly’s lyrics. After a year of meticulous practice, constant song writing, and playing shows around the Twin Cities, The Permatemps recorded their first EP, “This Side of Paradise” which was engineered, produced, and mixed by David Chutka at Black Lodge Recording Studios in Eudora, KS (Coalesce, The Get Up Kids, Senses Fail, etc.) and mastered by Jason Livermore at Blasting Room Studios in Fort Collins, Co (Descendents, NOFX, The Ataris, etc.) Their debut, six song EP is just a taste of things to come from The Permatemps and their aspiration to modernize the punk and alternative rock of the 80s and 90s that the members all grew up listening to. Any fan of The Replacements or early Green Day will hear the influence on this album. “We never set out to make catchy songs for kids to dance to. We wanted to make music that we like and know, regardless of what’s popular right now,” says Daly. The album is set to be released on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th) and will be available on iTunes and other online retailers around the world!
