Ben Weaver

A writer of great nuance and simplicity and simple wonder, Ben suffuses his songs with a sense of place and detail. Natural, everyday wonders are his inspiration (and shouldn't they be for everyone, really?) Born in Eugene, OR, Ben calls the upper reaches of Minnesota his home now, and it shows.

He's been compared to such songwriting and performance luminaries as Greg Brown, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen and Richard Buckner, and while he can channel their raspy growls and mystical sense, Ben remains his own artist.

Stridently independent and unbending in his quests, Ben might not be everyone's cup of herbal tea, but if he were, he'd be boring. I Would Rather Be A Buffalo is Ben Weaver’s 8th musical release. The album was recorded over the course of two days at Four Sisters Farm, near Rochester, MN. Engineered by Tom Herbers, and features Mike Lewis on upright bass and tenor.

In addition to his recording career, Ben spent 5 years cooking in farm-to-table kitchens and learning whole hog butchery and charcuterie. Ben has also published two poetry collections—Hand Me Downs Can Be Haunted and The Talking Comes Later. His short story “Humaneque” was included in the anthology Amplified: Fiction from Leading Alt-Country, Indie Rock and Folk Musicians alongside works by Jim White, Patty Larkin, Rhett Miller, Laura Veirs, Mary Gauthier and others.
