The Indiana artist developed his chameleonic style in the pandemic-era hyperpop scene, emphasizing sincerity and transparency in songs like his grungy hit “Trying.” Whether he is rapping over rage beats or penning sweet ballads, midwxst wants to provide listeners a path forward through relationships, identity formation, and the internet. The name and concept for the album is derived from the meaning of an archangel as a high-ranking angel in various religious traditions. midwxst notes, “archangel is more than a project to me. It’s a representation of change and transformation from all that I’ve experienced in the last couple of years. The music on this project talks about my mental health, my friendships, and my family. There is a lot of hurt and growth - this project is a testament to the importance of healing and moving forward.”
