A member of the New York anti-folk scene that developed in the early part of the 21st century, singer/songwriter Jaymay (real name: Jamie Kristine Seerman) has drawn comparisons to Feist and Laura Veirs with her wistful vocals and literate, folksy narratives. Jaymay spent her childhood in Long Island, where she was raised alongside five siblings and developed an early love for books, violin, piano, and the Bob Dylan songbook.

Following college, she relocated to Manhattan with the intention of pursuing a publishing career, but a successful performance at a local open mic night convinced her to focus on songwriting instead. More performances followed, and Jaymay released Jaymay & Kayoko and the Sea Green, See Blue EP in 2006. The popularity of these releases earned her a contract with the London-based Heavenly Records, who issued Jaymay's official debut, Autumn Fallin', in November 2007. An American release followed in early 2008.
