Inspired by a wide array of folk-images and stories, such as his family farm in Norway, Minneapolis native Dave Afdahl (piano, vocals, percussion) composed the album with fellow members of The Second-Hand Opera Artist Collective including Tim Binger (cello, accordion), Joe Finstrom (electric and upright bass), Andy Myers (drums, percussion) and Pat Dougherty (guitar, banjo).

Cliffs, Caves, & The Fjørd Side showcases rich thematic elements with organic and symphonic instrumentation. The album was recorded in various locations throughout the Twin Cities giving it a unique and diverse soundscape. It includes two copies of the CD; one for the listener and one for a friend. Their Kickstarter campaign led Wolfhoppers to make personal connections with fans by creating original art, homemade t-shirts, posters, and cover songs with videos.
