A group best summarized as LOUD STONER ROCK, Sonic J assembled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in late 2006. Moved by the legacies of Jimi Hendrix, Wolfmother, The Strokes, Black Sabbath, and Queens of the Stone Age, the trio cut their teeth as a cover band under the alias of Ryan and the Sweet Guys for the beginning of their performance career. When it came time to jam songs of their own, the musical roots and unique influences of each member were channeled to embody what has since been known as Sonic J: fusing the progressive solos and riffs of Hendrix, Lommi, and Zappa, the driving bass lines of Lemme, and the drum-hammering of Grohl, Bonham, and Damm.
