GAY BEAST 7" Release and European Tour Kickoff Show
GAY BEAST
Gay Beast formed mid-2005 during a fit of anxiety towards Midwestern passive aggression and as an attempt to make music that was queer in composition and aesthetic. Wielding a battery of drums, scraped and hammered guitars, chanted vocals, retro-future synths, saxophone, and other electronics, the trio (Angela Gerend, Daniel Luedtke, Isaac Rotto) build songs on grounds that adjoin complexity and catchiness, a space where both abrasion and tunefulness inhabit.
MYSPACE :: FACEBOOK :: BANDCAMP
With releases on DNT, Gilgongo, and Skin Graft, Gay Beast have garnered a reputation for uniqueness on the rock fringe, their sound being both too weird for the stereotype of a “gay band” and “too gay” for the noise-rock set. Upon examination of the influence blender, one finds remnants of Devo, Captain Beefheart, equatorial pop-rock from the 60s and 70s, no wave, and feminist theory. This concoction, delivered via Gay Beast’s unique political approach to composition, is explored heavily on their third album To Smithereens, appearing Winter 2010 on Skin Graft Records.
SEAWHORES
Seawhores have been active since 1996 with 15 albums, some on different labels with various locations around the country, some limited run presses on our own Here Than Anywhere label. We've taken an approach with music that has enabled us to work with many different musicians and subsequently, given us the ability to keep interested in the on going progress of keeping things fun. Our contributions list stands tall with around 35 people in which we've had the honor of playing with. Some of those people being very active in there own bands.
DAUGHTERS OF THE SUN
Daughters of the Sun formed and started playing shows in the Fall of 2005 (with an original lineup that included Chris Rose of Vampire Hands on guitar). The band has played the Twin Cities and Midwest since their formation and have recorded a number of albums. The band honed their recordings in their Twin Cites practice space, but thier Eastern psychadelic/shoegazer sound can be attributed to members time spent living in India. This is documented in live field recording on their Rings LP.
