GAY WITCH ABORTION

Maverick

Brutally vengeful art formed in the bowls of the Twin Cities. Gay Witch Abortion’s debut album MAVERICK jams itself into that sort of a classification. Like a unicorn spearing it’s prey, having so little patience it completely shreads the kittens into tiny morsels of sweet bloody pulp candies. The taste of blood has ruined many a creature, there is a simplistic aura surrounding the violence, drawing you in, just close enough to feel the power, but still leaving an unconquered taste in your soul. So you go back and try it again and again. Getting your senses tugged and thwarted back and forth by the punishing beauty of the hunt.

MYSPACE  ::  FACEBOOK  ::  LEARNING CURVE

This duo of Shawn Walker and Jesse Bottemly combine together to puree a gigantic rhythemic stew of guitar and drums. If you close your eyes, you might find yourself imagining your childhood, putting you fingers in to the ceiling fan, it hurts, but it brings a sense of power and risk. Doing the wrong thing, instead of the right thing. Perhaps drawing blood, breaking something. Getting in trouble. This is your sound track. Punishing and aggressive, a tornado’s ballad. Lighting and thunder rain down from the speakers without regard for shelter or comfort. Real power, natural power, the sounds of Gay Witch Abortion.

Special Guests / Opening Acts:

SKOAL KODIAK

Skoal Kodiak’s Markus Lunkenheimer plays a modified bleach bottle, with circuit-bends, distortions, and manipulations causing his voice to squelch, gargle and gasp as if he's being devoured by a gigantic meat grinder. The rock-solid rhythm section of bassist Brady Lenzen and drummer Freddy Votel lay down a solid groove informed by dub reggae and early 80s post-punk outfits like Public Image Limited and Gang of Four. Put it all together and you have the most innovative cult rock band in the Twin Cities opening up the evening’s festivities.

THE FUNERAL & THE TWILIGHT

Dave Bloxsom, Brandon Keegan, Benjamin Jones. They are influenced by horrific life experiences, death, and the mysteries of the after life. Maintaining a strong D.I.Y. attitude, this year alone they have kept busy with a heavy schedule of local shows, three tours, and releasing an EP.

MOTHER OF FIRE

Minneapolis band Mother of Fire’s eponymous record is a dark, almost terrifying musical journey. The band uses a fiercely unrelenting combination of caustic violin, guitar distortion, and bass/drum rhythms to convey a haunting sense of dread that marks each of the LP’s six tracks. Imagine the scene from Temple of Doom where the cult leader plucks out his human sacrifice’s heart – except that in place of a chanting Thuggee army you instead have Naomi Joy, a force of nature on the violin whose fiery vocals give the sound the menace of a thousand Steven Spielberg bad-guys.
