MySpace Music presents BLACK LIPS

Date:
Monday, March 16, 2009 - Tuesday, March 17, 2009

This spring Black Lips ( http://www.myspace.com/theblacklips ) will return with the follow up to the widely successful /Good Bad Not Evil with 200 Million Thousand/*, out February 24^th on Vice Music. In addition, *MySpace Music*, the world's most popular and most trafficked music platforms, will be presenting a spring North American tour beginning March 4^th in Carrboro, NC. Teaming up with MySpace Music empowers Black Lips to connect intimately with fans by enabling artists to upload video content, blog, post tour dates, lyrics, and make their music available to fans for stream or download.

The 14 tracks that make up 200 Million Thousand show true early rock and roll at it's finest: simple, straightforward songwriting mesh perfectly with the Black Lips distinctive howl to create a time capsule rife with nods to simple pleasures and a world of worry. It's a modern, mature reflection on life and the world traveled. As has come to be expected, 200 Million Thousand will be followed by ample opportunity to see Black Lips do what they do best – whip a crowd into a pure ball of drunk, unpredictable energy. Having spent the better part of their formative years touring the world, Black Lips have emerged garage rock veterans.

"One of the best live bands in America" - *ROLLING STONE*

"The best garage rock band operating today." –*UNDER THE RADAR*

"Similarly gifted as they are dangerously wild, the Georgian foursome never fails to unleash a set of impressive (and aggressive) songs with each new album." -- *FILTER*

Playing garage-flavored punk rock with a Southern accent, a messed-up and bluesy undertow, and the gleefully destructive impact of a 15-year-old with a bag of firecrackers, the Black Lips are an Atlanta-based combo who after their debut in 2000 soon developed a reputation as one of the Peach State's wildest bands. The Black Lips consisted of Cole Alexander on lead vocals, guitar, and harmonica, Ben Eberbaugh on lead guitar, Jared Swilley on bass, and Joe Bradley on drums when they released their first single. After a second single and a handful of out-of-control live shows that led to them being banned from several Georgia venues, they caught the attention of Greg Shaw at Bomp! Records, who signed the band to a recording deal. The Black Lips cut their self-titled first album in mid-2002, but before it could be released, Ederbaugh was killed in a freak auto accident when a driver going the wrong way crashed into his car at a toll booth. The death occurred only a few days before the Black Lips were to set out on an East Coast and Midwest tour; believing Ederbaugh would have wanted them to continue, the band set out as a three-piece and made plans to add a new lead guitarist for a more extensive tour in 2003, scheduled to support the release of the album. The Black Lips jumped to In the Red for the 2005 effort Let It Bloom. Since that time, the band put out Los Valientes del Mundo Nuevo -- the band's first release for Vice -- and Good Bad Not Evil, both in 2007. 200 Million Thousand followed in 2009, also on Vice. [Mark Deming, AllMusic.com]
