18th Dye may have hailed from Europe, but the group reveled in a distinctly American brand of indie rock (an almost pop melodicism married to an aggressive guitar attack) that owed a debt to such forebears as Sonic Youth, the Pixies, and Nirvana. Fittingly, the group scored an American distribution deal with Matador Records after American indie darlings Yo La Tengo, who are on the label, championed 18th Dye by dropping off a tape at the offices. DEVON WILLIAMS
I was standing in front of the Palace Theater downtown a few weeks ago when Devon Williams rode up on his bike with a new mohawk, upon which he remarked. Allen and I were having a conversation about reality Allen is Allen Bleyle, Devons closest friend and musical collaborator and we decided reality is mohawks, Devon explained. Nor were they fauxhawks or posehawks of the kind that can be combed, gelled or otherwise persuaded into looking-for-a-job hairstyles; no, these were authentic Mohicans.
PORCUPINE
The three men of Porcupine released their first full length record, The Trouble With You in 2009. Porcupine is hard at work recording album #2 this summer (2011) and they are about to release two separate records on viny this falll! Along with the vinyl will be download cards with some special extras available online!! There will be release parties scheduled soon for these "split singles". Be ready to make plans to attend a release show!! Porcupine also plays around the Midwest as much as their crappy jobs will allow and enjoy playing live very much. Thank You.
