Tonight First Avenue will be hosting a very special event in The Mainroom. Local treasure, only recently unearthed, Sonny Knight will be headlining to celebrate the release of his first record with The Lakers on Secret Stash. I’m Still Here has received more buzz than even Sonny Knight could have dreamt of, “Sometimes I wonder, why me? Why are all these great things happening now? All I can say is thanks. These are dreams that I had forgotten. Only now that they are starting to come true do I remember that I had them at all,” Knight said in an interview with CBS.
Local tickers have been flashing Knight’s name since this January when rumors were circulating that his promotion of the Secret Stash release Twin Cities Funk & Soul might end up in a solo project. Well here it is, and since then Knight has lit up the studio at 89.3 The Current, been featured on the Local Show, done a full profile with City Pages and a feature article with The Star Tribune.
Sixty-six year old retired truck driver Sonny Knight is about as authentic as it gets when it comes to gettin’ down and having a funky time. Joining in the celebration will be The Honeydogs and Southside Desire.
