The Modern Electric is a cinematic pop band of four Cleveland suburbanites in search of a life that’s just like in the movies. Heartbroken and disenchanted, they’ve found escape in classic films like Annie Hall, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Graduate. The power of cinema compels them to write songs to the ones they love. Saturated in beautiful pop melodies, their music plays out like a soundtrack to a coming-of-age film about chasing crushes, surviving loneliness, and finding close friends. Like a favorite mixtape or a fond memory, the band’s sound is timeless and heart-felt.
The Modern Electric live experience balances raw emotion with vulnerability. The passionate vocals are belted out as if each performance will be the last. The piano is both skillfully caressed and, at times, mercilessly abused. Band members jump from instrument to instrument as the energy spreads throughout the room like fire. Fans find an escape from loneliness and heartache in a Modern Electric show, like one finds escape in a silver screen love story. They have performed at CMJ Music Marathon’s Mercury Lounge (2012), Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2011), and Cleveland’s Tower City Amphitheater (2009) with bands like Rogue Wave, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Sloan. The band is currently recording their soulful sophomore release—a full length album featuring the single “All We Have Is Now.” With every song and every performance, The Modern Electric and their audience share in a search for the cinematic life.
