BARONESS

BARONESS formed in the summer of 2003 in Savannah, GA, but the bands roots run; all members, past and present, are friends from childhood in Lexington, VA at the foot of the mighty Blue Ridge Mountains. The band released a string of EP's shortly thereafter and toured North America and Europe heavily on the backs of each. In late 2006, the band started work on their first proper full-length and Relapse debut Red Album. Upon its release in September of 2007, Red Album was a bold statement of intent that wowed fans and critics alike. The album landed on many year-end lists worldwide: Decibel, Metal Hammer (UK), Rock Sound (UK), Close Up (Sweden), and was even named album of the year by the international hard rock magazine Revolver. BARONESS toured extensively following Red Album's release. The band traversed North America and Europe sharing stages with a who's who of the international metal scene; OPETH, HIGH ON FIRE, MINISTRY, WITCHCRAFT, GENGHIS TRON, CONVERGE, DANKO JONES, and more.

In late 2008 at the close of another grueling tour, and following their mind-blowing main-stage appearance at Scion Rock Fest, BARONESS holed up to write the highly-anticipated follow-up album to Red Album. The fruits of their labor were realized in April 2009, when the quartet enlisted Grammy-nominated producer / engineer John Congleton (EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, THE POLYPHONIC SPREE, THE ROOTS, BUDDY MILES, BLACK MOUNTAIN) to record the masterful Blue Record. A bold new step in the BARONESS journey, Blue Record was released in the fall of 2009 to massive critical acclaim. The band adorned covers of respected magazines like Visions (Germany) and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. Blue Record was named as 2009 album of the year by Decibel magazine, and impacted on the best-of lists such as Pitchfork, Village Voice, PopMatters, Revolver, Rock Sound, Metal Hammer, and many, many more. Most importantly, the band had created an album that resonated deeply with its diehard supporters, and the band played to sold-out venues all across North America and Europe.
