Being raised around music, hearing her father sing Harry Belafonte every morning, influenced Alicia's transition to formal vocal training; studying opera, jazz, and choral ensembles. At a young age, Alicia earned significant rolls in college musicals and studied performance at the Children’s Theater Company.

After taking a break from singing while getting her degree, Alicia has been singing and traveling with local rap group Kanser since 2009. She officially joined the group with the 2010 release of Kanser: Two For One. Her newest live project, Alicia Steele and The Endeavors, features jazz musicians Nelson Devereaux (sax), Ben Kelly (bass), Miguel Hurtado (percussion), and Joseph Strachan (keys); a jazz-based R&B performance.
