COLDER IN MOSCOW
COLDER IN MOSCOW
Formed back in 2008, Colder in Moscow earned success early on with their debut release, Great Speculation. Hot on the circuit, CIM played the legitimate clubs in town and opened for many of Minneapolis' finest, including the Love-Cars. In 2010, the drum chair opened up and Mound native Matthew Leonard joined the band. The band returned to Humans Win! Studio in August to begin work on a new album. With the departure of John Walker and Ian Nygaard in the ensuing months, the recording process ceased and CIM began writing new material under a different moniker, Animal Hospital, as a way to regroup without going on hiatus. An impromtu session, Animal Hospital Demos Vol. ! was released early 2011. The unreleased album and a brand new EP are slated to be released as early as October 2011.
LOST SHEPHERDS
The 11 songs that make up Lost Shepherds' first foray into recording sound like a balm for the broken-hearted—diaphanous ditties whose hushed beauty is best appreciated late at night with the lights down low. Lost Shepherds may only have two gears—gently loping folk rock and even gentler, lullaby-evoking ballads—but the group makes up for any lack in dynamics through elegance of execution.
NICE PURSE
Nice Purse, the brainchild of Ian Nygaard and France Camp, may not take themselves seriously, but they take not taking themselves seriously very seriously. It’s this attitude that creates the infectious music that can be found on their recorded material, and that creates an incredibly energetic live show. And it’s that live show that’s brought them the most intention. Don’t mistake the fun loving attitude – Nice Purse knows how to play.
