Mages formed as a two-piece acoustic guitar band in Minneapolis, composed of songwriters John Paul (Jack) O'Connor and Tyler Martin. The sound has since been enriched with the addition of sister Amy providing vocals and auxiliary percussion, Scott Barden on upright bass and vocals, and drums by Robert T. Goswitz.
