HOTDISH presents JESSE SAUNDERS
LAST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH
Jesse Saunders is the architect of what we know as House Music. A Google search produces 4,060,000 results and a Yahoo Search will return an unprecedented 4,250,000 results! His Wikipedia entry is an amazing overview of the worldwide phenomenon known as House Music. Why is there so much information on this man? Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois JESSE SAUNDERS felt the “groove to make people move” at the early age of fifteen. He boasts an extensive record collection dating back to 1974. He says DJ’ing “is in his blood a true DJ never grows out of it. There’s nothing like the rush of controlling the crowd and having them yell for more.”
Using a blueprint of old school funk, disco, R&B, early pop and hip-hop, JESSE SAUNDERS is the architect of the musical style known as “House Music.” He wrote, produced and released the first documented House record titled “ON & ON” through his own label Jes Say Records. His next hitz “Funk U Up,” “Real Love” and the platinum selling single “Love Can’t Turn Around,” served as the foundation for a funky and soulful new sound in electronic music. Jesse Saunders reigns as the ambassador for the global house craze through his work as a DJ, producer, filmmaker and author. After a lifetime of influential and innovative work, JESSE SAUNDERS continues to break new ground.
HotDish is the LAST Saturday of every month at the INFAMOUS First Avenue Nightclub. We specialize in house music with local and guest DJs each month. Your HotDish hosts include Nate Laurence (a rave-era veteran, intoxicating DJ, and one of the most highly sought after talents in the international new-school underground house music scene - on high profile labels such as InStereo, Guesthouse Music, and Mintravel Recordings) and J. Matthews (a Twin Cities "beatopia" original and Boston staple who showcased his talents at high-profile venues including First Avenue, Quest, and the long-running "Bump" at the Phoenix Landing in Boston, MA.).
Hear Ye...all party people of the frozen north: HotDish – that unmistakably Minnesotan hodgepodge of plentiful funky ingredients – is now serving all with a gluttonous appetite. HotDish is both a collaborative of djs (Nate Laurence & J. Matthews) and a Minneapolis-based event crew. HotDish values the diversity of EDM in the Midwest, yet it is our aim to provide a space for – above all else – funky, new-school, and soulful house music in the Twin Cities, which has historically been displaced by the thinning culture of our region. As an event, HotDish showcases talent that is pioneering and unifying – both local and international icons of this genre! Our past events hosted some of the best funky-house parties in the Twin Cities throughout 2006 to the present - with the likes of Terry Mullan, Justin Long, Lady D, Jonn Hawley, Alexander East, Chuck Love, Frankie J, Demitri Max, amongst many...many others.
Under the moniker “DJ Nickles,” J Matthews has made incalculable cameo appearances at nearly every Twin Cities nightclub and multiple raves since the early 90s, in addition to high-profile performances at the long running “Bump” at the Phoenix Landing in Cambridge, MA. Today, Matthews continues to showcase his talent throughout the cities while holding down his residency at First Avenue and working tirelessly on his International on-line radio show “Funk Yeah FM” on ChicagoHouseFM.com.
