POLIÇA

POLIÇA (pronounced po-lisa) began as a collaboration between fellow Gayngs' members Channy Casselle and Ryan Olson in June of 2011. By July they had completed 11 songs, made the key additions of drummers Ben Ivascu and Drew Christopherson, bass player Chris Bierdan, and headed into the studio. After Mike Noyce (Bon Iver) lent his voice on "Lay Your Cards Out" and "Wandering Star," the record was brought to Austin, TX to be mixed with Jim Eno (Spoon). In a few days, the LP was completed and the band Poliça was formed.

THE SUICIDE COMMANDOS

What Twin Cities band has the honor of being named both the best and the worst band by the City Pages in one issue? The Suicide Commandos formed in 1974 when guitarist Chris Osgood and drummer Dave Ahl asked bassist Steve Almaas to join their new band, thus becoming one of the very first punk rock groups of the era, one whose career roughly paralleled (rather than mimicked) the emergence of the Ramones in Queens, New York. The trio jump-started the Minneapolis punk scene with their arrival at the legendary Longhorn Bar in the spring of 1976.

SIMS

Restless and passionate but with an unflinching realism at his core, Sims has seen enough of life to know there are no easy answers. His second full-length release, Bad Time Zoo, released February 15, 2011 on Doomtree Records, reflects this rapper’s ongoing quest for solid understanding in a society on the brink of dystopia. For Sims, it’s been a long road. Andrew Sims grew up in the working-class Minneapolis suburb of Hopkins, Minnesota. His parents were both musicians with problems of their own, and Sims often had to look out for himself and his younger brother.

HALEY BONAR

My name is Haley Bonar (rhymes with Daily Honor), I am a 28 year old singer/songwriter who resides in the lovely village of Minneapolis, MN. I recently wrote, recorded, and am now getting ready to release my new record Golder. Titled after the dreams I had about the record cover being shiny gold, Golder also represents me striving to become a better artist, growing with each song I write. Since I can remember, I have been writing songs and singing.
