"This New York ensemble plays raw but deeply accessible art-punk that suggests, at times, a more primal Animal Collective. The vocalist Lizzi Bougatsos is a wild and engaging frontwoman; her high, undulating squeals animate everything within earshot." - New York Times 7.15.11

"Gang Gang Dance ruled the afternoon — experienced, charismatic, and shape-shifting in equal measure — letting Eye Contact jams vamp on, pleasant and comfortable and just slightly on edge." - Stereogum 7.17.11

"Amid a roster of musical acts that often defy genre, Gang Gang Dance raise the bar ever higher....as the set took shape the melodies began to peak out above the tribal din, emitting traces of trance, dancehall, new age, neosoul—all of it a few light years removed from its foundation." - Time Out Chicago 7.17.11

Comprised of Lizzi Bougatsos, Brian Degraw, Josh Diamond and Jesse Lee, GGD established themselves with the release of God’s Money in 2005, following a string of underground releases having begun in the same experimental Brooklyn scene as the likes of Animal Collective, Black Dice and TV On The Radio.

In May 2011, Gang Gang Dance released their first album for 4AD and fourth in total, Eye Contact. Recorded throughout 2010 with long-term collaborator Chris Coady (producer of Saint Dymphna and Rawwar EP, as well as recent releases by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Zola Jesus, Beach House and TV On The Radio), Eye Contact sees the new line-up subtly build upon the melodic aspects of their last album; the landmark Saint Dymphna. The album opens with a brief speech, “I can hear everything. It’s everything time,” then segues effortlessly into the audacious eleven-minute slow-burn ‘Glass Jar’. Elsewhere, Eye Contact features a guest appearance from Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip, whose signature vocals take centre stage on the track ‘Romance Layers’. The album's rich sonic palette reveals the band's fondness for a variety of sounds, from the bass-led frequencies of dancehall and UK dance, to the more outre elements of pop. As such, Eye Contact stands as Gang Gang Dance's definitive statement thus far.

Special Guests / Opening Acts:

PRINCE RAMA

Drawing from a collective mine of times and spaces, Prince Rama (made up of sisters Taraka and Nimai Larson) takes the threads of ancient symbolism and ritual and weaves a surreal universe that is wholly their own. Their often-unpredictable live shows graze the space between psychedelic ceremony, performance art and initiation rite. TRUST NOW, their 5th full-length album and 2nd album to be released on Paw Tracks was born out of this fantastic ritual space.
