Too Much Love presents... WIN WIN DJ SET, RON DARKO, ROOFEO and SOVIETPANDA
Performer:

WIN WIN

WIN WIN

Win Win was born when XXXchange (founding SPANK ROCK member and producer) reached out to lifelong friend, Devlin, to help him start work on a new project. After months of working together, in spite of their strong backgrounds in the arts, the duo realized the project lacked a much needed visual component, so they decided to bring in Ghostdad, a video wizard they met on the DJ circuit in the northeast. Once the three got together, the elements and influences each individually brought started to mesh, and you can hear that their composition process is complex and multifaceted, a fascinating coalescence of various technologies.

The fourteen psychedelic rave bangers on their self-titled debut album were created from sketches using samples, instruments, cell phone recordings, guitar licks, and myriad modern electronic tools. Basically, anything and everything from which they could draw inspiration. Beat-making programs were utilized to pull apart the sketches and put them back together, with additional synths and sonic tweaking added in XXXChange's Brooklyn studio. Each track collages these initial sketches. The kaleidoscopic range of sounds and influences on the album reflect three artists born in an analog world and their reactions to present-day short attention spans and a collective consciousness altered by technology and the internet.

Vocal contributions were made by Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Lizzie Bougatsos (Gang Gang Dance), and Andrew W.K, to name a few. Many of the vocals were added to the pile of synths, software, and samples. But on some tracks the vocals served as inspiration for the final product. In live performances, in the absence of some of the original vocalists, Win Win plans to present a choreographed audio/visual performance by the trio DJing tracks with video accompaniment.

RON DARKO

RON DARKO

As the DJ for dance-rapper Naeem Juwan, better known as Spank Rock, it didn't take Ron Darko long to build a reputation as one of the best deejays in the industry today. Now, as Spank Rock get's set to release the awesomely titled new album Everything Is Boring and Everyone Is a F***ing Liar, they hype has begun as the sails have set on this massive tour alongside Ke$ha and LMFAO.

Naeem Juwan AKA Spank Rock comes from the wall-sweating, pipe-bursting, hip-grinding basements of the Baltimore Bass movement. After spending some time at Drexel University in Philly he linked up with the Diplo-powered Hollertronix crew and began crafting the type of live performances that have become underground legend. Diplo introduced him to the cutting edge UK-based label Ninja Tune and in 2006 he released the seminal electro/rap/booty album YoYoYoYoYo with production partner Alex “XXXChange” Epton. The duo crafted a groundbreaking debut album that many credit as ground zero of the electro/rap movement. Along with Ronnie Darko, Chris Devlin and the sassy trash-talking MC Amanda Blank, the Spank Rock crew quickly set the blogs afire and become known for putting on some of the raunchiest, booty-shaking live shows in the world.

Spank Rock has toured with everyone from Beck to Bjork to the Beastie Boys, has made records with Kylie Minogue, Mos Def and Santigold, and remains one of the most enigmatic and electrifying performers in music today. This summer he was featured along with The View’s Kyle Falconer on “The Bike Song” by Mark Ronson, which was a single on Ronson’s 2010 album release Record Collection, and he toured with Ronson’s Business International US & UK tour. Spank Rock’s sophomore album, Everything is Boring and Everyone is a F***ing Liar, will be released in 2011 and has a renowned team of producers linking with the German dance producer Boys Noize. Juwan and Boys Noize both serve as executive producers of the LP, and Boys Noize produced most of the tracks. Santigold guests on "Car Song", and New Orleans bounce diva Big Freedia appears on another one, "Nasty". The album also includes production from Neptunes superstar Pharrell Williams and original Spank Rock producer XXXchange, as well as Sam Spiegel (aka Squeak E. Clean of N.A.S.A) and Chris Rockswell.

ROOFEEO

ROOFEEO

When a fire consumed his childhood home in Brooklyn, NY, a neighboring church took in the building’s residents. They offered food, shelter and to Panama born Jahphet Landis, a first glimpse into the world of live music. Although much was lost in the fire, Jahphet AKA “Roofeeo” gained a priceless appreciation for music. He immediately knew that music was a deeply rooted part of his soul. He began playing drums with no formal training and while digging deeper into his newfound passion, realized that he also had perfect pitch. Practicing regularly, he became obsessed with mastering his craft.

Fast forward to today and Roofeeo is a seasoned, genre-bending musician. Having played in a handful of local projects before receiving an invitation to play with Australian Electro-Punk Rock transplants The Death Set, he began rewiring the skills learned from jazz and gospel into a style all his own. While on hiatus from touring with The Death Set, Roofeeo took advantage of the opportunities that began presenting themselves, rocking audiences around the world with the likes of Indie-Pop artist Santigold, Nerd Rap pioneer MC Spank Rock, Amanda Blank, Theophilus London, Melo-X, The Chicken Bucket All-Stars, Jesse Boykins lll, Björk and currently touring with Tv on the Radio.

In 2008, Roofeeo stepped out from behind the drum set and began experimenting as a DJ. Merging this new talent with the live musicianship he spent years developing, naturally spiraled him into the even more challenging realm of sound/ music production. All of this preparing him for his involvement with the Brooklyn based Hip-Hop/Electro group Ninjasonik where he served as both DJ and the groups Producer. He is currently apprenticing with accomplished electro genius XXXChange, daily maturing his musical palette. Although far removed from the young boy who picked up those first pair of drum sticks, he still embodies the heart and soul of the music that originally inspired him, refusing to rest until he impacts the masses. In his own words, “I see music as an outlet for the soul and a voice of emotional expression for those without one. I want to make music that not only earns something, but means something. Daily I want to channel the fire that, in an instant, changed my life forever and bring that passion back into the music I create.”
