SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE
SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE
Six Organs of Admittance is basically just one man (but what a man!) - Ben Chasny, along with whomever he ropes in for recording or for shows. This man-band started in 1997 when Ben self-released his first LP in an edition of 400, little dreaming that one day Six Organs of Admittance would sell 37 times as many records. It was just something that was destined to happen - but that was the beginning of the happening. Over the years, Six Organs of Admittance has had many releases on a variety of labels. During this time, Six Organs of Admittance became one of the most infulential sounds in the free world. Ben also appears on Drag City as one-half of August Born with his hero Hiroyuki Usui. He has played in the touring band of Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and plays guitar in the bands Current 93, Badgerlore, and Comets on Fire.

PAUL METZGER
In 1979, Paul Metzger drilled a few innocent holes into a Yamaha acoustic guitar. A self taught musician with 5 years of playing behind him, Metzger was growing tired of the conventions of the instrument. This lobotomy was the first of many surgeries that would follow in years to come. Strings were added, subtracted, added again; the frets of the neck were disemboweled and retrofitted with a sarod like metal fingerboard plate; paint was splattered over it, a rejigged music box was affixed to the guitar's belly, a crash cymbal mounted to its bottom.
MOTHER OF FIRE
Minneapolis band Mother of Fire’s eponymous record is a dark, almost terrifying musical journey. The band uses a fiercely unrelenting combination of caustic violin, guitar distortion, and bass/drum rhythms to convey a haunting sense of dread that marks each of the LP’s six tracks. Imagine the scene from Temple of Doom where the cult leader plucks out his human sacrifice’s heart – except that in place of a chanting Thuggee army you instead have Naomi Joy, a force of nature on the violin whose fiery vocals give the sound the menace of a thousand Steven Spielberg bad-guys.
