Gastro Non Grata: Raconteur Rendezvous 2

Date:
Saturday, July 9, 2011

Restaurants: HAUTE DISH (TWITTER)  ::  GRAND CAFÉ (TWITTER)  ::  MODERN CAFÉ

Mainroom rock opens with Anti-Civ Record’s folk punk barnstormers Sorry OK, followed with the punch drunk power of STNNNG. Sand Ox, a new prog-metal group including gastro t-shirt wearer Duff Goldman from Ace of Cakes will be stopping by to blow your mind, and then Zebulon Pike will pressure wash whatever grey matter remains in your skull.

The 7th St. Entry will be abuzz with the macabre musical styling of El Le Faunt, the pogo punk good times with the boys from Voytek and the brutal riffage provided by the always shirtless Nightosaur. Haute Dish and Grand Café will be on hand in the main room all night satisfying your need for the sweet and the savory, while Modern Café will be holding it down in 7th St. Entry with food to match the musical intensity.

Advance tickets are $15 and include 3 food tickets upon entry. Day of show is also $15, but alas you’ll have to buy your own food tickets at $3 each.

Or skip all the rigamarole and attend our VIP Sausagefest with Mike Phillips from Green Ox Meats in the Record Room an hour before main doors open. For your $40, you will receive all that wonderful ground up, intestine cased meatsicles, the company of Northern Brewer and 3 food tickets for the main show.

Pabst Blue Ribbon is on board for this one and there will be differing tall boy specials from Pabst owned brands all… night… long… Of course, our friends at Northern Brewer will be on hand brewing a batch of fine Gastro-Brew and Clancey’s Meat and Fish will be supporting a very special cellular Dead Meat Door Prize. Gastro Non Grata is a labor of love made possible by the fine folks at City Pages, Heavy Table, PBR, Metro Magazine and Northern Brewer.

GASTRO NON GRATA

GASTRO NON GRATA

The purpose of Gastro Non Grata is to welcome you to the world of better eating, smarter drinking and a Mickey Rooney/Dirty Garage Rock feel. You have to look for it because "they" are trying to hide it from you. The Top 40 countdown, The Chain Link Garden restaurants and Beer flavored water makers of the world want you to think their beats are fresh, their food doesn't come from a frozen bag and the stuff in the can is really beer. We want to tell you about the few food, drink and warriors in these parts that are fighting the good fight, Idealists with a purpose, People that actually give a crap about what they do and how they're received by real people. Better consumption means better bowel movements for all.

OFFICIAL SITE  ::  BLOG  ::  FACEBOOK  ::  MYSPACE  ::  TWITTER

Persona Non Grata is an old timey way of saying certain people are purposefully not invited to a function, a snub some would say. Your crazy drunk uncle that's not allowed to thanksgiving anymore would be a good example. Gastro Non Grata is our latinish term for unwelcome gastronomy. We're here to call out the Big Guys out there pushing processed food full of preservatives, beer made with adjuncts instead of ingredients and the lowly bastards that are passing off an autotuner as an instrument. If there is bacon not bloated up with 60% water, we'll be there. If a burger is hand pattied, stuffed full of cheese and cooked to a perfect pink medium, we will eat it. If you can barely see through your cask-conditioned ale, We will first sip and appreciate it, then swallow it with relish. We are Gastro Non Grata.

Special Guests / Opening Acts:

ZEBULON PIKE

Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, ZEBULON PIKE is an instrumental prog-doom metal band formed in late 2002. Inspired in equal parts by heavy sounds of the 70's (Mountain, Pentagram, Captain Beyond, early Judas Priest), progressive rock (King Crimson, Rush), and 20th century classical (Bela Bartok, Arvo Part, and many others). ZEBULON PIKE combines the impact of metal with the considered approach of "art" music. The result is a rather refined, muted aggression necessary for inciting the slow motion apocalypse.

SAND OX

Featuring Duff Goldman (of Ace of Cakes), Honus, Lukas, Yungwirth  ::  FACEBOOK

STNNNG

STNNNG (pronounced 'Stunning') formed in early 2002 with the first lineup of Chris Besinger, Nate Nelson, Jeremy Michael Ward and Adam Burt. They started playing on April 5, 2003, at Big V's in St. Paul, MN, opening for Sicbay, Cheer-Accident, and Oh, Beast!. The first live performance consisted of 5 songs and clocked in under 12 minutes. In November 2003, they recorded for the first time with David Storberg (Signal To Trust/Misfires) at IPR in Minneapolis.

SORRY OK

this band formed in November of 2009, and toured the country during May and June (2010). we've put a few initial rough recordings out there for some folks to enjoy. we released our full-length Piss Our Names In The Snow on Anti-Civ Records on May 19, 2011 and are already working on a new studio album to be released later this year.

NIGHTOSAUR

In the hype-driven web press world, where bloggers are racing to predict the next big thing, Nightosaur give you that old-fashioned belly-fire enthusiasm. They're a band built out of a shared love of dual guitar solos and songs that clock in at seven minutes, they love Ronnie James Dio and early Judas Priest, and they write songs with titles like "Valkyries Son," and "Sabre Fangg." They do this because they love it, and that's refreshing—downright exciting.

VOYTEK

sammy lipps - vox, guitars
maximus "the apeman" dunbar - drums
dustin bawls - bass,vox
jonny teaze - guitars
(sometimes katie or julie sing as well. gotta have babes in the band)

EL LE FAUNT and HIS TRAVELING CIRCUS

Beginning in 2005, Thomas Maddux started to play with minor chords and darker tones. This came to fruition in 2010 with the release of the Circus EP as El Le Faunt, singing songs of his love of vaudeville, the circus, Russian folk stories, the cabaret, and people long forgotten with troubled minds with disturbed souls. Joining him now is His Traveling Circus which is composed of Cody D.
