KLEVER

KLEVER

DJ Klever aka Josh Winkler was born on the fourth of July in 1977, the son of famous blues musician, Juke Joint Johnny. Josh distinctly recalls going to his father’s shows at a young age and listening him jam out on the harmonica. At the tender age of four, he received his very first drum set, a “manimall” Muppet Show kit that he practiced playing until the skins busted. Josh spent most of his adolescence like any all-american kid: baseball, grinding curbs, and eating apple pie. He lived to sneak out at night and hit Atlanta's local skate spots where he caught a healthy reputation for his competitive spirit and pushing big tricks. At the age of sixteen, Josh’s competitive passion for both tricks and music met the almighty turntable and Klever was born. Growing up with a hip hop background, Klever studied djs like Premier, Cash Money, Afrika Bambaataa and Jazzy Jeff for their mixing and scratching arrangements.

MYSPACE  ::  TWITTER

In 1997, Klever started competing in every local competition possible where he began practicing with the Third World Citizens - Faust, Shorty, Shotgun, Craze, and T-Rock. In 2000, Klever seized the national DMC championship title and while at the international DMC competition, he was inducted into the world famous Allies crew, which consisted of renowned turntablists Craze and A-Trak. He began traveling the globe a lot with Craze. Shortly after, the two released the cult classic “ Scratch Nerds.” Klever began to produce prominent break record’s for battle djs and producers. In 2001, Klever successfully defended his national DMC title. He then represented the states in London for the international title. Later that year, he also won the national ITF title in San Francisco. Beyond his accredited mastery as a turntablist, Klever has developed a healthy reputation as “tomorrows dj”. Klever has established his name throughout the dj circuit for his crowd-roaring routines and mix sets. Being born and raised an ATLien, his signature style (on and off the decks) moves crowds in every direction from his roots of crunk, booty, and hip hop to the sweaty sounds of electro, dance-rock, b-more, new-wave, hard rock, and anything worthy to make you rock with finesse.

SPL

SPL

SPL aka Sam Pool has spent the last decade taking risks and breaking the mold in electronic music. Received internationally, SPL feeds the ears and souls of bassheads worldwide. From thousands of screaming fans in St. Petersburg and Kiev arenas, to massive club nights in Holland and New Zealand, to stateside venues such as the legendary Fox Theater in Boulder, Colorado, SPL delivers with passion and musical prowess that goes beyond the current state of dance music. Because of his international experiences and influences, SPL has launched into new territories time and time again.

MYSPACE  ::  FACEBOOK  ::  HOLLOWPOINT

SPL’s most recent approach forays into the depths of dub-hop infused hyper-bass music. Combining elements from the pulse of an all-night party and a healthy dose of Trap-Star Crunk, a unique and highly energetic experience emerges every time SPL gets on the decks. For those who cannot wait for a show, the same sound and intensity can be found in his recent track “Back at It” or his massive remix of Bassnectar’s “Bass Head”. Either way, SPL is bound to take your head on an intergalactic-bass journey, and leave you begging for more!

DEATHFACE

DEATHFACE

DEATHFACE is the hive mind entity created by Johnny Love of Guns ‘N’ Bombs. It is the product of locking a group of sociopathic misanthropes into a basement studio with a supply of high-powered hallucinogenic substances and a pile of heavy bassline, dubstep and mid-West breakcore. DEATHFACE is the sound of a sonic teenage ear beating.

OFFICIAL SITE  ::   TWITTER  ::  FACEBOOK  ::  GUNS N BOMBS

Named “Artist To Watch 2011” by Beatportal, Deathface (AKA Johnny Love and vocalist Adri Law) comes at you hard with the release of Fall Of Man EP. The six-track EP is inspired by Midwest hardcore of the 90’s, Magic the Gathering, woodland bonfire parties and white trash drug debauchery, and musically Atari Teenage Riot and Aleister Crowley. It’s the soundtrack to The Omen’s Damien Thorn and The Exorcist’s Regan MacNeil dropping 2C-B at Anton LaVey’s first rave. Scary, right?

MYSPACE  ::  TUMBLR  ::  SOUNDCLOUD  ::  TROUBLE & BASS

Johnny Love is one of the most provocative figures in dance music. A native of Southside Chicago, Johnny rose to infamy in his hometown in the early 2000’s throwing a series of events at The Jerkstore that shunned predictable-dance-rock for eclectic and loose cuts from minimal techno to French touch house. The parties got so wild that Love was imprisoned by the Chicago police on more than one occasion. With things too hot in Chicago, Johnny moved to Los Angeles and formed hard-hitting electro-house duo Guns N’ Bombs who were quickly offered a contract by Kitsuné founder Gildas Loaec. After a vast amount of critical acclaim and the making of many friends, enemies and frenemies Guns N’ Bombs disbanded in 2009, and Johnny decamped to a hideaway in Charlotte, NC to craft Deathface’s swift and deadly takeover and work on various collaborations, including an amazing t-shirt through Mishka designed by Seattle’s death-rock-obsessed streetwear giants Actual Pain.

CHUCK LOVE

CHUCK LOVE

Hailing from the US, Chuck Love embeds & spreads his unique brand of high energy, Dance Music, around the globe; raising rooftops, smoldering subwoofers and packing dancefloors. Known for his signature “Live DJ/Video” set, Chuck pulls triple duty as the DJ, a Vocalist and a Multi-Instrumentalist. The result: a ridiculous mix with some slamming, ‘on-the-fly-produced’ tracks showcased within the set. In 2010, Chuck launched his label, LOVE NETWORK, and has teamed up with Colette for the first release – UR EVERYTHING (with Remixes by Santiago & Bushido). His productions range from downtempo to minimal electronica to head-bopping 4/4 house – all infused with his signature soulful, jazzy flavor influenced by his Minneapolis roots. SASSMOUTH

SASSMOUTH

Sassmouth settled in Chicago from San Francisco via New York City in 2000 where she rapidly reoriented her life to the weekly rhythm of electronic dance music culture. Using her musical training and diverse experience performing live as both a member of string quartets and punk bands, she aggressively attacked the techno question throughout the first decade of the millennium. Sam’s DJ sets reflect her love of dialectics -- a tribute to her early explorations into musical yin and yang. Stripped down sounds mutate into jacking funky house, punchy techno, and deepl sub bass lines and melodies.

MYSPACE  ::  FACEBOOK  ::  TWITTER  ::  SOUNDCLOUD  ::  RESIDENT ADVISOR

Sassmouth found a musical kinship with like-minded Chilean artists while living in Santiago. She continues to return to her past residence to perform at the techno centre, La Feria. Upon returning to Chicago, Samantha performed regularly throughout the U.S., promoted a variety of underground and club events in her home town, and built a friendly and supportive online home for the electronic dance music community with her website naughtybadfun.org. Sam also continues her standard commute to beloved Detroit where she gained great inspiration and experience playing at club events and the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. Sam, now working out of her creative base in London, regularly contributes original tracks and remixes to projects for the Detroit-based label Hej Records while continuing to play dates in Europe and the Americas - most often at Smartbar, the Chicago dance music institution where she enjoys her newest residency.

DIVA D

DIVA D

Diva D. became a member of the HoneyPotCrew in late 2010. Her experience behind the decks could very respectfully entitle her as an "Oldskool DJ" and "Veteran" throughout the Midwest electronic music scene. Her music style embraces both hard-driving techno and heavy-hitting drum'n'bass. Her sets can deliver both genres while invoking the dance floor into a high-energy frenzy. Diva D. is also currently involved in collaborations with “Shatterbox Productions” and “whYnot Productions”. Also, in the early 2000’s, she has worked with Poopiehead Productions.

DANI DEAHL

DANI DEAHL

She lives in the city that invented house music – Chicago. She has a record label with one of the most respected names in dance music, Satellite Records. She writes for the United States’ top industry publications including URB and TimeOut. She tours around the world and has a host of tracks on the industry’s top labels. This is Dani Deahl: sassy, punky and brings the attitude with her rock’n’roll meets electro vibe. Her music epitomizes a raw, hard style of electro that is still accessible to club-goers and her style is just as vibrant and unique; Her signature pink and black hair has become just as much of a calling card as her sound. Beyond the image, Dani is just as known for her personality as she is for her flawless sets, top notch production and working in multiple areas in the dance industry.

Dani began DJing ten years ago and within her first year conquered top Chicago clubs. Realizing she was quickly outgrowing the local scene, the fresh-faced artist quickly hit the road, extensively touring across the globe from Hong Kong to Bolivia while concurrently releasing her first records. Industry heads watched as Dani continually proved her clairvoyance in predicting the next hot thing, leading to “Dani Deahl Presents The Top 10″ with the Canary Islands’/England’s OasisFM, and a position as House Editor with URB Magazine. “It was unusual, and still is unusual, to see a woman in the industry multi-task on so many levels,” says Dani.

OFFICIAL SITE  ::  MYSPACE  ::  FACEBOOK  ::  TWITTER  ::  SOUNDCLOUD

Since those early days, Dani’s career has blossomed, and keeps getting stronger. She continued writing with URB and began writing features for TimeOut Magazine, was selected as a top finalist for Rockstar Energy’s “Beauty And The Beats” contest, extensively toured, continued to release records (including Billboard charted “Poppin’ Bottles”) and began her own music blog D Squared – boasting 70 thousand unique hits a month. Among her notable accomplishments – she’s interviewed everyone from Paul Oakenfold to David Guetta, played prestigious Chicago-based Lollapalooza twice (one of the only DJs to do so) and had a hand in starting indie label Calamity Jane Recordings, boasting releases from artists such as True Pseudo and dark horse artist, Pilotpriest. Dani is becoming one of the most recognizable female DJs, and is making a considerable impact in the process. There are no limits for Dani Deahl, and it’s no wonder she’s often referred to as ‘the hardest working female in the industry’. While the next few years present endless possibilities, Dani plans to focus primarily on her own production and DJing while nurturing Calamity Jane. “It’s no longer good enough to be just a DJ. ” she says. “The question now in our industry is, ‘what are you giving back?’ I can say for me, with the utmost confidence…a lot.”

AARON BLISS

AARON BLISS

Originally from New Orleans, Aaron Hart aka Aaron Bliss has been actively promoting, DJing and performing live PA’s since his move to the Midwest in 1995. His move to the Midwest came after a brief but intense 2 plus-year induction period to the underground techno sound via the New York City Rave Scene from 93-95, which landed Aaron smack dab in the middle of a dance music epoch that changed his life forever.

MYSPACE  ::  FACEBOOK  ::  TWITTER  ::  RESIDENT ADVISOR

The constant exposure to the emerging house phenomenon at major clubs/events such as Living Room, Smack, Nasa, and Bliss (which he later jacked for his DJ alter ego) shaped his formative years and started him on his journey to find his own sound. Although his early influences range from hip-hop, industrial, rave, house, and techno, Aaron’s sound today explores the deep, jazzy, and funky side of Techno and House. He is currently a member/founder of Particle People Mpls promotions group with his good friend Jesse Jakob (which also performs live together as Jack Complex) and has a residency at Minneapolis’ famed First Ave night club hosting the BLACK series of events since 2007.

Turntablist Of The Year Nominee, Minnesota Music Awards 2005

I've been on the scene for over ten years and have a passion for solid, creative musical styles. I am never ordinary and always thinkin up ways to stand out. Check me out weekly at First Ave in downtown Mpls. Minnesota doesnt have its own identity. Theres no real flavor thats identifiable with Minnesota. As far as the rap crews, they need better beats. Everyone concentrates so much on the lyrics and making their album ultra introspective and lyrically rich and no one focuses on the beats. Hip-Hop is about rocking the party and making people dance... Once we can get that going on and we can start our own trends in music and fashion and stop ostracizing everyone who is different we will begin to start making some real moves as a city. [Pulse Magazine, 2004]

MC OBLIQUITY

MC OBLIQUITY

For over 15 years Obliquity has been entertaining the underground electronic music from the east to west coast, from Canada to Mexico. Based in the Midwest, Jon Ostroushko aka Obliquity grew up in a heavily music influenced life. Having a hippee for a dad that helped out some of the greatest bands in the 60's who also went on to have the premier rock club of the late 60's early 70's, The Labor Temple in Minneapolis, helped form Jon's strong respect for music. At the early age of 8 he was turned on to the electronic music sounds through random music that his oldest brother would bring into the house and casually listen to. For Jon this was the music that made him move. Around the age of 13 he began to MC for friends and at small house parties and was eventually put on stage by Minneapolis' Nik Gunz where he played his first "real show" for 1200 people. Over the years he has found his groove but in an odd way. Not wanting to feel tied down he usually lends his vocal talents to House or UK Hardcore but often steps up to the mic for the sounds of DnB, Breaks or even Trance.

MYSPACE  ::  FACEBOOK  ::  TWITTER

In 2008, Obliquity opened up the stage as the hype man for a 20 massive tag team set that laid the tracks for an incredible performance by trance superstar ATB. During the early part of the 2000's he worked closely with notorious UK Garage/2 Step crew, The Steppers Alliance (see Time Magazine) to help usher in a sound that was new to the states. Over the years he has graced the stage with and/or opened for the hardcore likes of Scott Brown, Hixxy, Luna C, D-Lyte, No Left Turn, Milo, Spree, Squiggles, NATO, Twilight and more. Obliquity is currently working on some projects that will show off his true flexibility in vocal work while doing some solo recording as well as working with local and national talent.

After time spent as an early prominent music blogger and on the airwaves at Radio K, Peter Lansky began DJing as Sovietpanda in 2006 when he started Too Much Love at First Avenue. Blending forward-thinking electronic music with a reverence for dance classics, TML exploded and Sovietpanda became one of the city's premier DJs. The start of 2008 saw him named Best Club DJ in Minneapolis by the City Pages, and he finished it as a Star Tribune artist of the year, all less than two years into his DJ career. Sovietpanda has DJed all over Minneapolis, from dive bars to bottle service clubs, from art galleries to outside the Metrodome, and in other cities across the country. He's shared bills with the likes of LCD Soundsystem, !!!, The Juan Maclean, In Flagranti, Shit Robot, Classixx, Klaxons, Diplo, Holy Ghost!, The Presets, Cut Copy, Nacho Lovers, Jacques Renault, and other artists from across Twin Cities and the rest of the world.

Jeff Hunter was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota and while in high school, Jeff heard his first 'techno' song. It was 'James Brown is Dead' by L.A. Style. This was to be the beginning of his transformation into what we call a 'techno-head'. The second catalyst of this transformation came about when Jeff journeyed to Duluth, Minnesota to attend college. While at college he had the opportunity to get a time slot on KUMD public radio. He hooked up with dj Diene and they became 'The Harmonic Sideshow'. This is where Jeff Hunter learned the sacred art of beat matching.

The third and final key to Jeff's transformation happened in the summer of 1998. He and some friends went to Milwaukee for a party. When Jeff got there he realized that this wasn't just a party, it was a rave. Proceed 98', outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin in a recreation center was where Jeff's transformation into a techno-head became complete. Jeff has been back in the Twin Cities for quite a while now and he's been one of the driving forces behind the increasing popularity of breakbeat music in Minnesota and the surrounding states. His style is comprised mostly of various breakbeat sounds, including Funky, Acid, Progressive, and Nu-Skool Breaks.

While going out to the local techno parties put on around town. As the opportunities to play at clubs throughout the city increased, Cesar teamed up with Yaleb Villalobos, Aldo DeLucio to form the "MEXIKAN TEKNO MAFIA" (MTM). Recently Cesar Acosta and Yaleb Villalobos delight people with their music and well taste on techno, making their Dj sets a magical experience that will take you trough a journey of climax and excitement.

TANYA NORMAN

TANYA NORMAN

Complicit is an exploration of modern techno and an experiment in musical partnership for contributing members Tanya and Travis Norman. Longtime enthusiastic supporters of Minneapolis talent, the duo was looking for a way to translate that inspiration into a statement of their own. They found it by crafting a production and performance workflow running identical controllers manipulating a single system. The resulting symmetry and real time dynamics, a balancing act of duties divided by frequency range, are an invitation to become “complicit participants” in the pair’s potentially criminal acts of dancefloor destruction.

Early forays into performance have witnessed the duo making good their commitment to manifest a favorite Minneapolis slogan: “Keep Techno Sexy.”  Whether contributing to the renowned Black nights at First Avenue or to intimate after hours events, the vibe has been sweaty, sultry, and designed for dancing.  Fans who witness the extra level of communication evident in non-verbal cues dictating build up and release of the material realize quickly the strength of connection between the two musicians .  Meanwhile, the improvisational aspects of the pair’s presentation translate to a potent in-the-moment awareness, one that spreads easily from performer to listener until each is enveloped in a unified experience of Complicit’s relentless rhythm.

SHUGA ROSE

SHUGA ROSE

Shuga Records started by accident. Now one of the largest online record stores in the world, it all began a decade ago when a car accident landed Chicago DJ Adam “Shuga Rose” Rosen on an operating-room table and, later, out of work. To pay the bills, he logged onto Ebay and reluctantly started selling off his library of more than 5,000 albums, earning enough to pay the rent – and then some. With his profits, he began rebuilding his collection, which, like his expertise of vintage and audiophile vinyl, grew quickly and exponentially. Now a six-employee family company run by Adam, Shuga Records has an inventory of nearly 400,000 highest-quality recordings, which are each approved by Adam himself, updated in real-time.

SHUGA RECORDS  ::  FACEBOOK

Shuga stocks many of the bands that got Adam hooked on DJing as a teenager, from Underworld and Nine Inch Nails to the Future Sound of London. But its specialties have expanded to include the widest range of audiophile pressings from classical labels, 1960’s folk and psych, and rare first editions by some of rock’s biggest legends, as well as the kind of esoterica DJs crave, from spoken word records and private-label pressings to regional rarities, novelty albums, reissues, and new collector vinyl. While buyers from around the world are drawn to the store’s range of albums, the way Shuga does business – consistent, on-the-mark grading; prompt, secure shipping; and a commitment to music that shows – keeps them coming back: Shuga Records has a nearly perfect 99.9 percent approval rating on Ebay.
